Fixing chairs and beds

Submitted by Digmaster on
Well this will take forever, but I'm up to it. I'm going to try to fix all the beds and chairs so that they work properly. they work well now, but there is a risk (like %25) of getting stuck in a wall after leaving. Normally this wouldn't be a problem in oblivion, but the models for the chairs lack the support to be good chairs. Thus I'm going to go through all the chairs and beds to ensure you can exit them easily. I will need to change cells slightly becouse of this, however it should be mostly only arround where chairs and beds are; for sometimes there is just now way I can fix it in the model alone. In the process I'll do a simple subsurf to try to make all the models I mess with looks better; but that tacks on an extra two or so minutes to each model, which will take forever, so I might end up not doing that. Never the less, here is a before/after: [External image] (NOTE: I have no idea how substancial the polygons have increased. I know the numerical number, and that it doesn't seem to slow down on my system, but I don't know if this will be a problem. The collision mess has the same number of polygons(It was surprisingly super complex, while others were really basic. I guess one person hated collisions while the other didn't care). if I come across one with a funky mesh I'll update it. The chair has also been upgraded from 1 Furniture Marker to 3; allowing much easier placement in the construction set. 1 down; at least 50 to go. I'll forus on Balmora, then gradually expand the focus to the other major cities. I have SATs coming up in a couple weeks, so It'll be slow going until those are taken care of, then I'll try to plow through the rest.

That is great that you can do that. Don't feel pressured to try to rush; we'll be here, and probably still be debugging! Before you do much moving around of objects other than the chairs themselves, it would be better till after I get v004 out so Yoshimo's many object placements are included. No sense in moving something that he already moved! I am hoping to get v004 out by the end of the weekend, (then I can start debugging the Main Quest).

I have not moved any chairs that I can think of so it is probably safe to work with them. Most of my object placement fixes have been floorstand candles on the ground and candles, books, coins, scissors, hammers, armor, arrows, and silverware which sit on counters, tables, shelves, and other surfaces.

i have already done this so dont bother Beds and chairs have correct sitting positions

Nice work with the mesh :) Though you want to keep the collision poly's very low ... they need to be very very basic otherwise you will end up with serious lag in places such as the dining rooms etc. Also its just a thought but maybe wood looks more natural in low-poly ...

Really? You added in the new Furniture markers, went about exchanging all seats and beds to be good? Dammit, there goes a couple hours of effort. Oh well, its experience, and was fun to do. will that be in v0004?

it will probably be in v0005 ;) one thing that you could do is add ai packages to npc's, and fix the ownership of all buildings?

That I will try to do. First I'll get ownership down, then ai packages. Thanks for the suggestion.
