On Skywind Clothing

NO NEED TO COMMENT IF U ARENT GOING TO HELP

okay, its useless for me to add these pants if none of the npcs have outfits made, can someone make a script for tesv edit that makes outfits for every npc based upon what is in thier invo?

sorry to sound rude about that but its just how it is.

1) As far as I know, NPCs

1) As far as I know, NPCs don't have the proper inventories because they were converted from Morroblivion and armors there were not separated. Inventories must be edited by hand on all NPCs using Morrowind.esm as a reference.

2) The amount of outfits will be equal to the number of NPCs. Are you sure this is exactly what you want?

Hmmm, if I recall Machine actually planned to fix this when all the npc facegen was completed. He's kinda busy at the moment though.

This needs to happen or else the NPCs will be perpetually naked. =P

I haven't spoken up because I don't have anything concrete to add. If I find time, I'll take a look at TES Edit scripts to add outfit records, but I make no promises. Seriously, no promises at all. I don't even know off-hand what language TES Edit scripting is based on.

As I said, the problem is not

As I said, the problem is not outfits, but distributing clothing/armor pieces on NPC. Skywind recreates Morrowind's system unlike Morroblivion, so the items must be reassigned by hand.

Select any npc, create a custom outfit out of your items, and give that outfit to NPC to test. I don't see how this issue is holding you back when it can be done in 5 minutes via CK/TES5Edit.

you have their invo and then u have their outfit, the converter only made their invo, so they WONT WEAR THE ITEMS THAT ARE IN THEIR INVO, WE NEED A SCRIPT TO CREATE OUTFITS FOR ALL NPCS BASED ON WHAT IS IN THEIR INVO, unless you want to go through all 6,000 npcs and make outfits by hand for all of them

Going through and making

Going through and making outfits by hand is what I would suggest. Waiting on an automated script could take a while (if it's even going to happen at all), and if we split up the work properly it shouldn't take more than a few months. It simply may be necessary to do it by hand entirely.

Ok, I repeat - Skywind is a

Ok, I repeat - Skywind is a direct conversion on Morroblivion which has incorrect items placement because clothing/armors were not separated due to Oblivion's engine limitation. Making outfits out of current inventories is WRONG (I'm using caps here since you use it too and don't understand the problem). Is it easy to do? Yes, I can make such script in 15 minutes. Would I? No. Why? Read futher.

You don't need to place items in inventory because they are taken directly from outfits in Skyrim. So to make it proper way, outfits should be created by hand using inventory items from original Morrowind.esm, those outfits assigned to NPC, and the current Morroblivion's clothing/armor inventories must be removed in Skywind.esm (leaving only food, keys, quest/misc items, etc).

You insist on doing a completely wrong thing that will only make everything much worse than it is now.

Select a single NPC for test, create your custom outfits, and test them. Until someone can do all of the above BY HAND it is the only proper way to get clothing in Skywind.

Well might I consider a

Well might I consider a option. The people working on the facegen stuff are pretty much done from what I hear why not have them work on clothing the NPCs, Unless you can't copy inventory data then my suggestion is worthless.

The process of transferring

The process of transferring the proper clothing/armors from Morrowind:

1) Open NPC in Morrowind's CS

2) Create a new outfit in Skywind from clothing/armors based on Morrowind, assign outfit to NPC, save outfit in Excel for reference.

3) Open next NPC, check if outfit already exists in Excel, create a new one and save in Excel or assign the existing one. The more NPCs are done, the faster it should be since more outfits will be ready.

4) Repeat 1000+ times, where are you labor slave monkeys? :)

Note there is no step to remove clothing/armors from inventories in Skywind because that can be done with script once outfits are ready and assigned. Unfortunately this is the only step that can be automated. I can't write script for anything else since there is no TES3Edit and no way to access the data from original Morrowind.esm with script.

I took a look at things in

I took a look at things in TES5Edit yesterday. I assume default outfit and sleeping outfit are the two fields that need editing. I didn't know the formatting to put things in those fields though (there will definitely need to be more detailed instructions when this is actually being organized).

A lot of NPCs in Morrowind wear armor all the time, and the light/medium armor had a lot more hard outfits instead of Skyrim's more fur/cloth/leather stuff. Do you think a bit of creativity could be applied for sleeping outfits for most non-hostile NPCs? It would seem a bit ridiculous for them to wear stiff armor like chitin or bonemold to bed.

Also, am I just wrong about that? I've never really noticed NPCs in Skyrim sleeping unarmored.

People have been sleeping

People have been sleeping unarmored since Oblivion. Morrowind people didn't have as complex AI schedules as oblivion and skyrim so it didn't matter if they wore armor all the time because most of them were just going to stand still until they're blown up in the Red Year anyway.

here's a little research I

here's a little research I did, and that could maaaaaaaaaybe be used at least as a proof of concept.

http://www.creationkit.com/Dynamically_Attaching_Scripts

This describes a way to attach scripts to a NPC (giving a large magnitude so that it's not noticeable by the player). [Optimization: only if the NPC doesn't have any outfit]

The attached script can just be to add an outfit to the NPC and to have him use it (once and for all).

A first version could just randomly select an outfit in a list of given outfits. If that proves to work, further versions could have more complex conditions on which outfits is assigned to which player (like saying NPC is fighters guild rank = 9, give him ebony).

Anyone fancy trying this?

This opening statement really resonates with me for some reason ;)

There are times that we may want to dynamically attach scripts to objects and actors. This could be because we don't want to alter the vanilla records, or because we think it's going to be too much work to edit every single vanilla record, or because we want our mod to work on objects added by other mods.

Hope this helps!

edit: also this http://www.creationkit.com/SetOutfit_-_Actor

Am I missing something, or

Am I missing something, or can somebody do a bit of research on getting NPC clothing lists from a Morrowind editor? Morrowind has been reversed engineered like a thousand times, I'm sure if somebody hunts hard enough they will find a list.

Placeholder items will have to be added to Skyrim (Skywind), probably all pointing at the same model, that will need to be changed once a model is made, but as long as forms are created, then the bulk of the work is done.

Please, no papyrus scripts

Please, no papyrus scripts for such simple thing. You should avoid scripting at all costs where possible, Papyrus is horrible in Skyrim, it's a plague that corrupts saved games and CTDs without any errors at random points.

There is a tool with custom scripting support for Morrowind tes3cmd.

The problem is used scripting language - Perl. I just don't have any intention to learn it. It's ugly, overshadowed by Python and rarely used in anything modern developed.

It looks like you just need

It looks like you just need to run Tes3cmd's dump command on Morrowind.esm, then make out a script for parsing the resulting text file and putting in the outfits into Skywind.esm.

There are a ton of people

There are a ton of people that roam these forums and tell us to do things or focus on making things we already have decent placeholders for. If we're going to have to do this the hard way, we might as well utilize them and focus on getting those clothes on NPCs once we have clothes. Once we have clothes, someone significant in this project (so not me) should make a forum topic about the most helpful thing they could do at the moment is help dress the NPCs and how drifting the forums making weird suggestions doesn't actually help in the development of the project at all. Also especially how not only does spamming Skyblivion with weird does not really help in the projects, it actually hinders both Skywind and Skyblivion.

I may do the magic

Can a script add the correct magic spells to the correct npcs, or does that have to be manual too?

We should make a spread sheet for this. Also, could someone make a small guide(with pertty pictures) on how to add clothing to npcs, it might help us with people volunteering.

Yes, you can't get clothing inventory to export :(

I've tried Magical Enchantment Editor and did a text dump, but its huge 300+mb and so opening up kind of killed my PC!

You will write a perl script

You will write a perl script and dump inventory items from every npc into a text file yourself? You are very welcomed.

Or you just saying that "someone" will do it? Let us know who.

I don't think you understand.

I don't think you understand. Tes3cmd is an existing tool that will dump the entirety of Morrowind.esm into a text file with a few commands on the command-line (just give it the dump command and pipe the output into a file). There is no need to use perl at all (excluding the actual perl executable that runs to run the script), as the tool is already written. The only part that needs a script to be made is getting out the particular outfits parts, and that can be done in whatever language you want.

I probably would use perl for that outfit extraction. Assuming that the outfit data is in a format that allows one regex to find the entire outfit and the corresponding NPC, it would actually be a rather easy script.

Ok so Nebbie if you can

Ok so Nebbie if you can create a text file that has NPC ids and corresponding clothing then we can look importing into Skywind via a TES5Edit script.

Is this something you can do? I got a big text file dump from Magical Enchantment Editor but its too big a file for my pc to open.

Ok I parsed dump from tes3cmd

Ok I parsed dump from tes3cmd and made association list of items between Morrowind and Skywind. Due to a weird renamings of EditorIDs in Morroblivion (someone was apparently high) or plain absence of some items, the list is not complete.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B4rR0C-Bcx_JRFZfTk9PdDRPY28/...

Format is simple:

EditorId from morrowind, FormID in Skywind, FormName fom Skywind (optional) separated by semicolon. Tabs are optional to.

List must be completed, every morrowind item must have formid in Skywind (will require addition of missing items directly in skywind.esm), after that I can import inventories from Morrowind and create outfits. And we can finally get rid of Morroblivion's abomination legacy and go pure vanilla Morrowind.

If you haven't already got a format Zilav that would be easier to read then I asked the guys at OpenMW and we could produce something like this :

Actually on a Linux system you could do something like this.

And get

Projectiles are objects

Projectiles are objects flying in the air, they have speed, range, impact force, etc. Ammunitions are inventory objects, they have params such as damage and weight. So ammo.
