.bsa format?

Submitted by ZeroSbr on

So I was just wondering if there was any way to make Skyblivion work with a .bsa instead of a bunch of loose files. I mean, since it's so early in development, I'm not sure about D/Ling and using this because it might cause more bugs than it's worth. Then when (or if) I go to uninstall it, I'll have to go through all those directories and manually delete each one. And besides, .bsa format is convenient for huge mods like this.

If anyone could tell me how to achieve this, I'd appreciate it.

Have you ever heard of Wrye Bash and BAIN?

Yep, but I'm a complete novice as far as using them goes.

So you ask others to solve your problems because you don't want to learn using essential available tools? I don't see any logic.

Well, I was hoping you would point me to a decent source. However, that is no longer necessary because I managed to make my own BSA. Thanks for being rude.

I've pointed you to the best source to resolve your exact problem called Wrye Bash in my first reply. If it is called "rude" now, you are welcomed.

I was referring to maybe a link to a guide or something. You first post was fine, but your second one reeked of insult which I do not approve of.

Because sometimes users have to help themselves with answers. I pointed you in the right direction, your task was to find necessary documentation and guides on using Wrye Bash and learn it. Replying "I'm novice" sounds like an excuse for lazyness.

The same generic dialog is common in chat here:

"Guys, when Skywind/Skyblivion will be ready?"

"No soon, but you can help making it happen faster"

"I don't know anything about modding"

"Hmm, learn to use CK?"

"Naaaaaaaaaaahhhh.... I just want to play!"

And then "Guys you should do this and that" to insult on top of it.

p.s. So you see it can get on nerves very quickly. If you think I was rude, then sorry.

Wrye Bash/Smash is indeed the way to go since it allows you to completely see what you install and in case of conflicts choose the version you want of a file.

Installing or removing a mod and its loose files is a one-click operation. I use it for all my mods, further for WIP like Skywind and Skyblivion.

Packaging in a BSA is certainly what we strive for but that's when we reach the final versions, so in a very long time.

I completely agree with Zilav, you guys have no idea how many times we get asked that, for me it's about twice a day from You Tube comments.

But yeah let's change the subject.

zilav, I can tell you're not sorry at all. Considering I wanted to make it a .bsa and not use BAIN, you didn't help me. You told me to look, but gave no links which would've been helpful.

Not only that, but you continue to antagonize me even in other topics, just because I want to see Skyblivion first. I'm currently trying as hard as I can to learn ways to help, but considering I'm very busy with real life, I just don't have the time. Your problem is that you need to be a little more understanding and less critical.

ZeroSbr,

Making a bsa is a good plan, but at this stage it might be better to just make it for your own use,as the bsa would need updating a lot when the skyblivion project gets more attention.

But bsa files will be used for both projects when they are nearer the final stages.

To make a bsa file that can be used in Skyrim and/or skyblivion etc,you can use the Archive, exe tool that should be in your skyrim folder.

Yeah, I tried making a .bsa for both Skywind and Skyblivion, but For some reason I got missing textures/meshes. I really don't know why.

add the bsa file path into your skyrim.ini

As stated, you need to add the BSA file name to the Archive list in skyrim.ini, if you don`t the game will use the Textures etc in the folders not those in the bsa archive.

When you first install skyrim there are no texture or mesh folders because the bsa is used only,so when we make any mod that uses just a bsa the textures and meshes are taken from the bsa and the textures in the folders concerning that mad are not used and could be deleted after checking that the bsa is working properly.
