Just got my new mic and pop filter in. First time trying any voice acting. I followed the tutorials for editing and hope it sounds descent. Let me know what you think. I am open to trying other characters as well. Any suggestions and helpful criticism is welcome. Thanks!

I thought that sounded pretty good!  The lines sound conversational, not flat and lifeless.  I think you could work for imperials as you are.  If you can modulate your voice you might even want to try for other roles.

Female Dunmer sound sort of like Storm from the old 90s X-Men animated series (like a wise African woman), and for redguards you just need to pull off an American 'black' inflection (or even any African accent).  Khajiit you should purr in the middle of half your words, speaking in a Middle Eastern or Eastern European accent with rolling 'r's between purrs.  For Argonians and Orcs, just speak like you've smoked several packs a day for a few years and guzzled a few shots of whiskey.  Channel the sisters of Marge Simpson.

Can I ask if the sound quality for this is okay? I have recorded half of Therana's lines but am now fretting that the quality might not be up to scratch.

Could be better.. BUT it is good enough. It would be best to keep going as you are for the sake of consistency. I plan to go through every single piece of dialog once it is all recorded and i will request retakes for any character that needs it.  I am not sure if you are using compression or not but that could be a useful thing to do. (i have a video on it.. it is on the first post of this thread and it covers compression as well as other things).

If you are NOT using compression.. i want you to record your clips as you are and then compress each clip as shown in the tutorial and then normalize the clips afterwards. It is just that half the time your voice dips due to the range you cover while acting.

That is all.

TL:DR - finish recording and then compress+normalize as shown in tutorial 2 on the first post of the thread.

Imperial and Nord samples:

Sirollus Saccus, Afer Flaccus, Frik, and Kunthar.

I'd say stick to the first 2. Afer was the best. Sirollus could use a deeper tone. I personally don't think your Nord accent or voice is suitable as is. They sound sorta like skyrim accents but let us be honest here... skyrim had pretty bad voice acting for the nords.

If you really want to do nords.. I posted an example a page or two back (post 2262). It is a bad quality clip, but it is good enough for reference. Roll your R sounds on ever R if you can.. and a deeper voice wouldn't hurt (add bass if it works as a finishing touch.. but don't solely rely on it).

This is mostly based on my opinion.. Stijmunkey/gigaflare might think otherwise.

Hey Langotriel.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give the authentic Nordic accent a try.

Hey, guys! Here are two auditions, one for Strillian Macro and another for Raxle Berne. I don't know if either of them really fit my voice-type, but, any criticisms would be well-taken. (:

I am looking to be posting better audition pieces later, but I figured I would put up my first tries anyway.

Just getting these cleaned up, but I wanted to try out my new mic (got a Samson Meteor). These are raw, since my mate has protools and is better at these sorts of things, so I've sent him some FLACs.

If any of these are up to scratch, I'd be happy to take them on.

Sorry guys, I hate to be a bother, but it would be fantastic if I could get a response from Stij, gigaflare or Langotriel on how to improve these attempts.

As long as you keep rolling those Rs ... and you go with a more monotone accent/voice.. i think you could do Nord just fine. Sound quality was decent and passes the test for the first round. If you refer to my example on post 2262 (page 46 i think) then that is kinda what i would like from nords. You do not have to copy it directly of course.

You could have also done Bosmer.. but they seem to be done now. oh well.

Good luck with nord and keep pestering Stijmunkey and gigaflare! to reply too.. if you see them online, message them in chat!.. Maybe they like some of your other voices more.

No to raxle but maybe to Stillian. I think you need to focus on the sound quality first of all. I can hear the sound of excess air pressure coming from P sounds.. it is important that we have a clip that sounds like someone next to you said it, not someone through a mic and so we need to get rid of as many telltale signs of microphones as possible. There is also some random sounds just in the background while you speak... this might be you touching your microphone or something.. if it is a headset, it might be your cheeks rubbing against the mic as you speak. Either way, it has to be dealt with. I have 2 video tutorials on the first post of this thread... watch both and if you listen carefully and follow along, you should fix most of your problems. If it is indeed a headset... try to put it down while you talk. if you are just holding a microphone in your hand, hold it dead still.. or prop it up with something.

Now, to the voice. Personally, i don't feel all imperials have to sound burly.. but he sounds too much like a bosmer as is. Try to get some lower tones in there.. that express a little authority. At the moment it sounds like a teacher instructing a 4 year old student rather than adults talking to adults during in a land such as morrowind. try to work on that and then post again. If it is all fixed up, then i would give you the go ahead to some mage imperials.

What stijmunkey and gigaflare think might be something completely different but those are just my thoughts.

I'd like to submit some samples to be considered for the female Redguard Neminda.  If there are any other characters you think I might be suitable for, please let me know!  Feedback is also appreciated :)

I dont know what happened with this but follow the videos in the first post and do some redguards! Im assigning you to Neminda Right away. . . . . Get to work! :p

I'd like to apply for these Orcs, Bugrol gro-Bagul, Bugdul gro-Kharbush and Shazgob gra-Luzgan

The sample below is a test for my future orc, and will of course have better acting and better over-all quality.

Hey, all.

I've submitted nearly all of my assigned voices to Gigaflare's SkyDrive over the past few days and was hoping I could be considered for the following Imperials:

Afer Flaccus
Sirollus Saccus
Natalinus Flavonius
Rufinus Alleius
Crulius Pontantian
Gratian Caerellius
Oritius Maro
Stentus Tullius
Murudius Flaeus

Cheers.

Hey everyone!

I'm relatively new around here, but really excited about this project! I talked to Gigaflare briefly and he said I should upload some of my samples here.

All of them can be found on my Soundcloud.

I did Ahnassi for Khajiit (I did her as a little bit lighter-voiced than many Khajiit, but I can also go a bit more gravelly if you guys want), Big Helende for Altmer, Severia Gratius and Blatta Hateria for Imperials, Eraldil for Bosmer, and then Arara Uvulas and Aldyne Arenim for Dunmer. Dunmer is a bit of a stumper for me, honestly, because of the discrepancy between the Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim voice styles.  As Aldyne is a pauper, I went more with the Skyrim cockney-style, but with Arara I tried to find more of a middle ground? Tell me what you guys think. (Oh, and ignore the pacing of her performance, if you would.  I know it's a bit slow and drawn-out.  That would be no problem to fix.)

Have a listen, and let me know what characters you guys would like me to do!

Thanks, and I look forward to your feedback!

Let me be the first to say, the sound quality is excellent for the most part! well done! ... I don't feel i can comment much on the roles you are best suited for but i would probably set you with imperial personally. BUT .. I will leave it to Stij and Giga as long as you aren't doing Nord.. if you ever feel like doing nord, i will make sure i get a say in the matter... cause skyrim missed the mark a little.

You have a good voice and good sound quality. Can't wait to hear it in game!

Hello all!

I'm new here, but it seems like this is the way of getting into the Skywind VO scene.  To that end, I've put together a short demo reel of voices from the various races throughout Morrowind and uploaded it to Soundcloud for you, Stijmunkey, and Gigaflare's thoughts and approval.  (Incidentally, I do know that some of the characters I read for have already been cast; I just used them to show an idea of the variety and breadth of characters I can do.)

https://soundcloud.com/viper50bmg/skywind-audition-male-voices

I'm a professional (insofar as I've gotten some paid gigs) voice actor (also, composer), and Skywind looks like it should be a brilliant revitalizing of a fantastic and ambitious RPG; hence, I'd love to be involved in some way.

Thanks for listening, and I look forward to your feedback!

Very neat audition. It was not quite loud enough for me to truly judge on the sound quality (all the way up on headphones and it was still relatively quiet compared to any song or most other audio) But what i heard was good. The next thing would be, where do you fit in?

I feel like you would do a good Imperial if you had a little more meat in your voice.. maybe it is your microphone or maybe it is the editing, but i feel there is a slight lack of low end freq to really come across as a manly (roman based) imperial. IF you could remedy that, i would say go with imperials. Even as is, you could probably work up a voice to go with older mage type imperials.

And finally, acting. What can i say? it is superb and i can ask nothing more from a volunteer... at least not at this stage. Keep it up!

What do you do now? wait for more replies if you wish.. also, pester Stijmunkey in chat and tell him i sent you. Ask for his opinion on the matter. You could also update the post with further readings of imperial (louder this time.. normalization, compression.. all that good stuff). Keep the peaks at -1dB and it should be good.

That's all from me at the moment. Good luck!

I'm staking claims for the following: (if they haven't been taken already of course)

Imperials: Furius Acilius, Cassius Olcinius

Nords: Hoki, Ulfgar the Unending and his Ghost.

And the Mudcrab Merchant. If he is to be included in the mod.

I can also do some of the generic and misc. lines for Male Imperial.

I'm seeing some odd things in the spreadsheet.  I'm looking at the xlsx one, and a couple of my characters have some weird things going on in their filenames.  Captain Falx Carius appears to have duplicate file names, while some of Carnius Magius's appear to just be '0'.

I'm staking claims for the following:

Frald the White

I have been working on getting on that character for some time, But if you can pull of a better voice for him and get accepted by @Langotriel then that place is all yours.

I might try a few lines soon, I don't have the finest quality recording equipment, but for the first trial bit I could get away with it. I DO know where I could borrow some if I am deemed worthy.

Hi guys,

stijmunkey wrote, that there are some weird sounds. What can I do?

I suggest re-recording it and maybe put something behind and around your mic to minimize sound getting to it. Also, make sure to run it through audacity and get out the bad sound out best as you can. Audacity tutorials can be found on the first page of this thread.

Hello Ryizine,

I've done everything according to the tutorial. That's my problem. We copies each line into one sound-track after recording. Could this effect the problems?

Hello all!

Wow, I just discovered this project, it is amazing! I would love to participate in the Voice acting, especially Argonian males, maybe Dunmer too if you think its ok.

Here's a few samples I quickly did with random lines.

Let me know if its good enough or what could be done to improve it. I think my Argonian style is probably closer to Oblivion voices though.

I would love to be assigned a few Argonian lines :)

Cheers,

Marathon

Drummermean

After taking the advice given, I have tried to fix the audio quality. Before I record multiple lines, could you tell me if its good enough recording quality?

Thanks!

/files/Drummermean/files/Mero.wav

I get that the, "aahh" part is airy.. but the whole sentence seems to be said with a lot of breath.. It is hard to explain what i mean with mere words but, yeah..

The sound quality is probably fine but, make sure you record with a dry mouth. In real life you don't hear all the watery sounds of saliva so make sure it is not in future recordings.

What else.. hmm.

have you been assigned to any role? or been told to try out for anyone in particular? Personally, I feel you are most suited for either breton or altmer, both of which are covered. Bring some authority into your voice (and i will admit that.. i am not sure if you can pull that off) and maybe you can do imperial. Do you have some more voices on offer? can you salsa with some sweet sweet dunmer/argonian voices perhaps? gimme your absolute best soldier!

you have 2 posts so consider this a reply to both. Whether your voices are suitable or not is not my first concern. What troubles me is that the sound quality isn't close to being good enough quite yet. Even as raw clips, you will struggle to squeeze a good, pure voice out of that mic.

Make sure you are 6-8 inches away while recording; not speaking directly in to the microphone but facing a little to the side of it. before you do record however, watch my tutorials on the first post of this thread... they should help you.

Hello all! This is a project I've been eyeing for a while and I'd really like to get involved.

Here are a few of my previous lines/roles on my soundcloud page.

 https://soundcloud.com/t0nkatsu

(Sormer lines were recorded with my band's condenser, all others were done with my home condenser.)

I was looking over the list in the spreadsheet but I still found it hard to see which characters were not voiced yet, as some of them have recently been claimed.

Let me know if I would be suitable, I have access to my band's condenser mic which is much better than what I use at home.

Also we've got an issue with Shazgob gra-Luzgan, his lines seem to be cut out. Here's what is on the spreadsheet "I was disappointed in Mossanon. A pleasant, hard-working clerk. Then, suddenly, completely unreliable. Before he went missing, I heard that he had be"

Not sure what we should do, if anyone can fill this in, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I understand what you mean with the watery sounds, I'll try and rid that for when I try something new.

Mmmmm.. I haven't been assigned a role or been told to try out for anyone in particular, I believe a Breton would be the superlative choice, however, that's taken. Maybe an Imperial on the somewhat noble side?

Just for fun, I'll try the races (as I know the Dunmer have a lot more to go) you have suggested, but I think an Argonian may be a bit odd for me. ^.^

Thanks for the feedback.

But for the sake of practice I chose Ingokning Lines 243,244,245,246 and 247

I also tried a few different speech patterns.

Thanks for you time, and I do hope you will allow me to be apart of this project!

At this stage, I'd really like to get some good recordings started with Aesliip in particular, and if there are any other Nords that need assigning, that would be fine by me.
