You dont have an S problem. the S sounds are not too loud. You have a noise problem.. focus on that.

If you ever need to lower the volume of your esses, just follow the second tutorial on the first page of this thread. Esses are easy to spot and highlight in Audacity.

Hiya everyone!
So I'm new to voice acting but it's something I've always wanted to try. I've watched the tutorial video at least twice and I got my first character's lines done to my own satisfaction (for the most part). Before I go much farther (by installing Morrowind and Oblivion and getting the Construction Set files all lined out) I want to make sure that you guys think my acting's even worth it.
So here's the new (potential) Galbedir (Balmora Mages Guild Bosmer). Please let me know what you think! Feel free to be brutally honest. I really want to know how I did. Thanks!
Oh, and I'd love to do more characters as well. I can attempt to put on an accent or something for any other race as well of course (maybe an Altmer since I like the "high-and-mighty" attitudes). Or do you think fake accents are probably not a good idea. I'm not practiced or anything so who knows how it'll come out.
Anyways, enough babbling from me. Here's the files for Galbedir. ;)

Yay, we need someone to put a dent in all these roles!
First off, I hear a lot of hissy noise in the background. Make sure you're getting a 'clean' bit of noise for the background removal - Langotriel might be able to help you with that.
Second, I feel that currently your voice is too soft to play this character. This girl is VERY competitive, and is currently trying to become an accredited mage before her Khajiiti rival. The female Bosmer voice is very loud, whiny, and bossy. Even when you're trying to hock your wares or give advice, it should come across as pushy. "Step right up, outlander!" This should be said with the showmanship and assertiveness of a circus leader. Be enthusiastic when talking about the firey scroll of burning and death, and sly when talking about opening locked doors - you're "secretly" a thief, after all. You know what rogues like...
When you say, "You helped (cat girl name)! I'm not surprised - I know how people like you work. I should have made you a better offer." you're not sad that the player helped the Khajiit, you're PISSED. You're accusing the player of just pandering to whoever has the deepest pockets - you're insulting them, not excusing them.
Thanks, Smitehammer! I'll
Thanks, Smitehammer! I'll try tomorrow to work on these lines with the attitude you suggested.
Y'know, that hissy noise is not on my WAV originals. I hadn't actually listened to the MP3s before RARing them
. Stupid free converter program. I'll have to find another then. The trial on the recommended converter (Switch) ran out on my machine :(.
Anyways, thanks again for listening!

Heya sirenAri, good to see more woman power joining the effort. :D
I've been recording a lot of stuff, and had recorded for that character a few days ago. Thought I'd go ahead and clean them up so you can take a listen to get an idea of how you might want to do it, taking Smitehammer's suggestions into consideration. Keep reading for this NPC and any others you want, they'll replace my stuff with the better voice types as needed. ;)

Hello All.
This is my first time voice acting so hopefully it goes well. I have done one line of dialogue from a random NPC for each of the races which are still available to be voice acted. I repeat the lines twice. The first time is close to my natural voice (Australian mixed with New Zealand) and the second time is my attempt at what I believe the character/race should sound like. Let me know what race/character you guys think i should do (If any). If I'm not suitable then i will just QA test so it's all good :)

I have absolutely no idea how I did that Dunmer voice on Monday, but I spent hours trying to get it back... Sadly, this is as close as I got; (Assaba Bentus below)
So to make myself feel somewhat better, I did a run-through of some of the remaining Imperials; Lucretinaus Olcinius, Zeno Faustus and Saprius Entius, just to see what they were like.
If the Dunmer voice isn't what you'd originally wanted, I apologise, but I literally cannot get an exact match on the one I did on Monday ):
No idea why...
Saprius is good.
Lucretinaus has some unclear words.. debt sounds like death and WHAT sounds like WAS (as in german)
Zeno is decent.. but some things are still a little unclear.. some words. I think it is your irish accent that is coming through :P
Assaba sounds like a nord with a smoking problem.. not exactly a dunmer, no.
But it is not my job to comment on the voice acting.. but since i am the only one really replying i have to. But the sound quality was a little off. It is important to listen to your track after you export them. There is noise in the background but it may very well be dithering noise. Dithering noise is something Audacity slaps onto the track if the recording is low in volume to supposedly maintain the audio quality... whether the trade off (better sound + noise in place of some suffering sound quality) is worth it, i don't know... but it won't work in a game. Make sure you properly normalize you tracks after noise canceling.. then compress the track based on peaks, followed by another normalization. Unless you have some freakishly loud parts in there.. it should come out loud enough overall to avoid the dithering noise.
Try your best.

Not an expert here but it does not sound like an argonian. Unfortunately, it sounds like your voice would be best for a bosmer, altmer, breton or maybe even khajiit. The problem is that those roles are all taken.
But hell.. maybe you can try a young imperial or something. Try and do an imperial and try to do it sounding self important.. you are the man!
The sound quality is lacking, sadly. It is hard to pinpoint the problem, too. It kinda sounds like the overall sound is just bad... what microphone did you use?

I am not going to comment on the voice acting.. i'd say listen to smitehammer on that one.
Sound quality is not up to scratch. There is some noise in the background... if it really wasn't there when you exported, then it is dithering noise. That is something that the program adds to the clips if they are too quiet... i think :P
Anyway.. make sure you select your clip in the program (after deleting excess) and normalize it (after noise removal). Follow this up with compression as shown in the video and then normalizing again (2nd video)
Then listen and compare the tracks before and after exporting. If it adds the noise still and it is loud, then you can turn that off by going to, "edit", "preferences", "quality" and selecting the, "none" option in both 'dither' drop down menus.
hope this helps!

The argonian doesn't really sound argonian.. and the voice is airy and unclear :/
The dark elf lacks growl.
the imperial might work...
The nord.. no. I am picky with nords. It lacks a true nord accent. .rolling R sounds and soft barbaric monotone voice.
ANYWAY.. first things..second.
The sound quality is lacking. There is some noise.. when you actually speak, i can hear it. And i can also hear the room... it is best if you record in a small, well dampened space (blankets around you.. or at least a lot of paintings on the wall with a carpet on the floor).

The accent is the least of your problems with this one. The sound quality is low, and not even uniformly low. The voice was almost inaudible, and what little I could pick out was gravelly. Try recording the same distance from your mic each time, removing any possible noise pollution, and following the video tutorials on the first page of the thread for noise removal and normalization/cleanup. Then try your lines with your actual voice. You're not a Dunmer, Argonian, or Khajiit, so there's no reason to modulate your voice with a gravelly undertone. Lay the Scandinavian accent on thick, though.

Ok Guys, My home is internetless until my service provider can send some one to come fix it, a couple weeks at least apparently :( so im using whatever computer i can to get on the site, mostly while im at work and its dead, and also over at my dads house. The audio jack here at work on the pc is broken but i will bring my headset here next time since its usb so i can listen to samples, other that that i can listen to samples whenever i visit my dad aswell until i get internet back. I can also reply to questions on my phone, but so far i can only edit the OP on the work computer (my dads doesnt seem to work the internet just slows right down and i can t do anything?) So i will update it as much as possible but there may be some delay.
All that being said, its been pretty hectic since that developer video. I have gotten emails, pms and the like out the wazoo and its come to my attention that i have missed a few or not replied to some. The Best way to contact me specifically is by the Private Message system here on the site, sending an email to me through the site sends it inhtml format and the links usually dont work but if you pm me i get an email notifying me and i can come to the site and read the mesage and listen to any links properly (whenever i get an email my phone notifies me just like a text so if im not busy i can come check the message right away) Aside from that just post on the thread like you have been doing if i miss the post Gigaflare or Langotriel should be able to pick it up. They are both part of the VA dev team and they both have the power to Assign Roles and give Official Feedback. If one of them has said your voice and quality is good Pick some roles and post up on the thread you wish to be assigned to them, One of us will confirm it, if its me i can update the OP when i get a chance if its Giga or Lango they will PM me so I can Update the OP later. In Conclusion if I have not replied to a Pm reguarding a voice sample I probably read it here at work and planned to listen to the sample when i got home later but got caught up in something else or forgot by the time i got home. So if you have been missed in pm or in the thread I apologize, just post again or resend a PM and we will try to get back to everyone properly!

I'm going through the available parts to pick out a couple, but I keep finding character names that aren't on the spreadsheet of lines. Am I missing something? Are there hidden extra pages? Hello there, I am new here! I'm Coltess, and I'm very excited about this project and interested in helping in the voice acting department. I admit, I've never voice acted before, but I have been a done a few similar things.
I worked for two years in a radio station and did commercials regularly, and I currently have a college radio show and perform commercials and PSAs for the University. I've been told I have an NPR voice, and I've no idea if that is good or not.
I understand you can't really go off of anything based on what I write, but I'd rather record my audition with the studio equipment as I don't really have anything for personal use that's of good quality, and actually that's part of why I am writing right now. I was wondering, If I am lucky enough to be chosen to lend a hand- voice- to the project, what mic would be best. Something that is also a little durable would be nice, but I really don't want to break the bank. However, I suppose I am putting the cart before the horse, but the prospect itself is very exciting.

Blue yeti and the samson gomic have comparable quality but the go mic is 100 times more practical and under half the price. There is no real argument here.

https://soundcloud.com/shauni-mulder/sets/grerid-axe-wifeI agree with smite, sounds pretty good. Two thing the s sounds are a tad sharp be sure to follow the tutorial videos in the OP, and a few lines sound like they cut off a bit early, be sure to leave a couple seconds at the end of the recording
I will walk her through the steps to perfect this.. the accent needs some work and some sounds are a little sharp.. i got this.

stijmunkeyDelcriramHeres a little voice clip i did in the role of Aenar the Nord Barbarian.
Im new here so i apologize if the audio is not up to par but i just want feedback on wether or not my voice can possibly suit this and other nord roles.

As you said the quality needs work, the deepness of the voice is ok but needs a tad more emotion to it it was a bit monotone imo, but Langotriel if very picky with his Nords lol I would wait for his opinion
