There's a lot of noise coming through - a lot of hiss.  Your voice sounds 'muffled' by it.  You could try limiting the ambient noise, perhaps?  Maybe Langotriel or someone could give you some tips on reducing it?

Elam Andas lines finished, I hope you all like it. Some of the lines had different file names but had the same dialogue. So I just made copies with the different file names, because I didn't want to leave any out. If I don't need to do this let me know lol. Anyways, enjoy ( :

I'm not sure about the Nord accent, but I like the sound of your normal speaking voice for Bretons.  Speak louder, like you did when introducing your samples.  You sound much better when your voice isn't just a whisper, and you aren't likely to come across any characters that require you to speak so softly.  The accent is a bit thick, but its fine for Bretons.  Just speak clearly and with some volume - especially if you're reading lines that seem 'excited' or 'angry'.

Even though you have an audience of one (the player), this is more like putting on a theatrical performance for all to hear than speaking confidentially to one person beside you.

Hey guys, here's my attempt at Angaredhel the dunmer mage after many retries, due to my first actual take sounding much too flat and rushed. Any tips on how I can improve the performance for this take, if anything at all?

Hello,

I'd like to try out for a few female roles.  I haven't played Morrowind for quite some time, so a lot of it is kind of hazy to me.  My pronunciation may be off at some points, so please tell me which words I'm messing up and how to pronounce them correctly.  I read off an example line so you can hear my voice first before I take on any roles.  It's a little quiet, but this is just a quick example I did on my phone:

This voice isn't really what we're going for.  For the sake of consistency between characters, we're going with a more 'raspy' Dunmer, as was heard in Morrowind.  There's only one common voice for 'yells' and injury-sounds per sex per race, so it would seem jarring to suddenly not have the 'raspitude'.

See if you can pull-off the Jeff Baker 'rasp and throat-singing combo'.  Here's some examples from the Dunmer I've done so far.

The sound quality could definitely be improved, and you could slow it down a bit - get into character and try to have the lines sound conversational, not just like you're reading them.  That being said, you have a voice that I think could be well suited to Bosmer.  Maybe you could try some Bosmer lines with a eal mic and some noise reduction?

Yes, like I said, it was recorded over my phone.  I would be planning to do this using my friend's equipment that he uses for his band.  I can definitely get more into character and try out a few Bosmer lines soon. I'll continue to record my lines over the phone until you feel comfortable with me taking on some roles.  When/if I have my roles assigned, I'll re-record them with my friend's equipment and the quality should be fine.

I'll post the lines as soon as I get them.

Hi there :) was told to post some recordings but the converter only allows one recording to be converted from .wav. to .mp3. anyone know of other ways i can change this?

Here, download this. It will let you save mp3s with Audacity. [link] The website is a little hard to navigate, but look for the download link for something called LAME.

Here are the instructions to install it. [link] When you get it done, recording and saving in Audacity will be easy as pie.

Hello! My mother was a professional actress for many years. She co-starred in a Bryan Singer film that won the Sundance Film Festival, under the stage name Dina Brooks (her real name is Dina Howard). She also created an NPR radio documentary, Dina's Diary,  that won several major radio journalism awards, including the 2006 AP Mark Twain award for Best Special Program.

You can listen to her radio documentary here.

Thank you for your review. Not to whisper is so hard xD But i have tried a breton healer ("witch") character out. This time i shouldnt be whispering around. But the quality is not so good.

Welp okay I tried. I did some lines for Lucretinaus Olcinius (and no I can't pronounce that) instead and if it's alright with you I'd like to do lines for him instead. Also when I removed the background noise in Audacity it distorted my voice a little and I was wondering if I could get some advice on that:

Make sure the back ground noise you took out didn't have anything that sounds like speaking in it, otherwise it'll take out like-wise sounding noise in the entire clip, which is what I think happened here. Also, the audio is super quiet, so I advise re-recording and make sure you run it through a normalizer and compressor. I couldn't make an accurate estimation of your voice/quality until those couple things are fixed up.

This has tons of noise and feedback in it, I suggest running it through audacity to clean the audio up. Also, the dark elf needs to be incredibly raspy. Think as if you've been breathing in nothing but ash for a thousand years, that's how you should sound. I also suggest looking at the earlier posts for good examples of our perfect dark elves (Smitehammer, MorrowindShorts..etc..)

The audio is a little jarbled, but from it I could hear a decent sounding voice. I would focus on trying to clean the audio up as much as possible, get a little closer to the mic or speak up a bit. Make sure to run through everything in the audacity tutorial to get the most out of your gear. Also, as far as conversion goes I just use this site, it's incredibly fast and I find easier than using the sound converter. http://media.io/

After getting over a week-long respitory infection which left me sounding like I'm from New Orleans, I've finally recovered enough to audition for the following characters;

  • Argonian Pawnbroker 'Ten-Tongues' Weerhat (Also a generic Male Argonian audition)
  • Dumner Mage Angaredhel (Also a generic upper-class Male Dumner audition)
  • Dumner Miner Ilasour Tansumiran (Also a generic lower-class Male Dumner audition)
  • Imperial Guard Saenus Lusius (Also a generic Male Imperial audition)
  • Nord Commoner Ennbjof (Also a generic Male Nord audition)
  • Khajiit Bookseller Jobasha (TAKEN I know, but I wanted to submit a generic Male Khajiit audition, if you guys need any more variety for your generic Khajiit NPCs)

Actually I think I've worked out the whole distortion thing. It's because there's an insistent buzzing sound coming off of my mic and I can only remove it from the audio by using a WHOLE lot of noise reduction, which distorts my voice (or atleast that's what the nice man on Youtube said...)

I'm getting a new mic tomorrow so that should fix that. How will you be taking new lines for?

For accents: more reserved, you can keep the american accent, I suppose. Take Faendal in Riverwood for example.

Here's my demo reel! Just picked random characters from the script sheet. These arent auditions for these characters specifically, just to show what types of voices I can do. No effects, no EQ, no reverb. I'm aware theres a little bit of background noise too, I was recording this at home where I cant really do anything about traffic noise, if I get assigned to a specific character I can just head into the studio and record the full thing there in one session.

1. Aesliip, Nord Draugr (undead).   2. Effe-Tei, Argonian Monk

3. Hircine, Dremora Daedra           4. Nalion, Woodelf Trader

5. Yagak gro-Gluk, Orc Smith         6. Yagrum Bagarn, Dwarf

And an added extra, heres how I believe Yagrum Bagarn should TRULY sound if we want to realistically recreate the morrowind universe.

I think you could work on your Dunmer a bit.  Your 'natural voice' is coming through a bit too much.  If you can teach yourself to throat sing, that'd be the easiest way.  But some people have managed to have their voice be almost entirely rasp, too.  So there is a little freedom, there.

Go ahead and try out for some of the other races, though.  Show us how flexible your voice can be.

You have an accent I can't quite place, but your voice has a nice timbre.  If you can roll 'r's maybe you could pull off Nords?  I'm hearing a lot of clattering in the background, too.

As far as rasp goes, you've got it.  The only problem is when your natural voice bleeds through - it sounds like the future-ghost of Farkas takes over at some parts.

That beign said, I think you could definitely pull off a good Dunmer if you work at it.  And again, try out some other roles, too.  Even if there's no 'spots' technically open, you never know what slots may open up in the future, so go ahead and include them in your demo.

The sound quality is a lot better on this one, even for a phone.

Having an 'American' accent is fine, for Bosmer.  In fact, the Bosmer women in Morrowind sounded almost like whiny, bossy valley girls - only without all the slang.  But they had that same attitude.  Be very very bossy.  You can't sound pushy enough as a female Bosmer.  Maybe not so much for Glathel, but just Bosmer in general.  I still think you've got a great voice to pull off Bosmer.

Tried my hand at an imperial netch herder (FrinniusPosuce).

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9170704/Voicework/JuxtaTerrestrialFrinniusPosuce%20tryout.mp3

I tried to make him sound a little different form an average imperial soldier because of his profession.

Did that work? Maybe a little too much accent? I did manage to get a little more of the echo out from my last recording so that's great. Advice?

There is also a weird separation in the lines. It feels like a "but" should go in there.

The sound just needs cleaning... Maybe try putting pillows all around you :) I reckon try to sound more reserved with the accent.

The accent was my attempt at making the character seem less educated (he's a netch herder not a scholar) I'll make another pass tomorrow night! Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for the feedback, I know there is much room for improvement. I'll try giving Nord lines a shot - as for the accent, I'm Scandinavian :) I'll try to reduce clattering in the background aswell, my mic is quite sensitive.

Hi all, I've recorded tests of voice lines for two characters. At first I had terrible issues with noise, but recording on my laptop seems to have fixed this - my desktop PC's fan must just be too loud. Still, if you notice any issues I'll see what I can do.

http://www.fishface.org.uk/static/stuff/Briring_audition.mp3

http://www.fishface.org.uk/static/stuff/Gilvas-Barelo_audition.mp3

My own accent is English, so probably best suited to Altmer but they're all taken up. For Briring, a Nord, I've gone with a Yorkshire (so, Northern English) accent - hopefully a Scandinavian accent is not a requirement! I tried to achieve the raspy quality with Gilvas that was discussed - feedback very welcome in either case. Also welcome are suggestions for particular characters. I'm comfortable doing a range of English accents (my natural accent is quite neutral, nearly RP) so any characters suited to that I'd be interested in.

Oh, and I have no idea if some of the made-up words have settled pronunciations. Is there a place to find that out?
