A. LeeHi guys, I'm a bit new to the process, but I'd really like to do some voice work. I haven't played much of the games but I've seen a little and got a chance to try out the intros to Morrowind and Skyrim. I had to do some research on the character races, so I don't know if they are quite right but I picked out a few to experiment. The sound quality is not ideal on some of the clips because I'm learning as I go, but I've got a Shure pg42 microphone with Audacity software and I recently received an offer of help from a friend, so I should improve. I'm always open to advice and suggestions.
I saw that you need a lot of Dunmer so I made an attempt but altered the pitch a wee bit to deepen my voice a little. I could turn the acting up a notch on some of them as well, I just didn't want to overdo it. Also, if you have any other ideas for characters I would be better suited to, I'd be happy to try them out.

I've been thinking about voicing some Khajiit in the future. To me Khajiit sound very Spanish like. It will take me quite some time to get the voice down. I've listened to many Khajiit lines from Skyrim, and have also found that this cats voice is rather similar ( : http://youtu.be/-8cbBNM63T0

By Smitehammer's suggestion, I tried a few lines for the Dunmer Edryno Arethi with some variances. I didn't use any pitch alterations so I'm not so sure my voice is deep enough. I also retried the Khajit Shunari with more trill and animated tone and took down the other ones because they were pretty awful, haha.
Hopefully there's some improvement.

I think you should redo the line where you mention yourself to make 'sense'. What I've been doing is saying 'myself' instead, and having the file saved as "ATTENTION replace - Berel Sala - with - myself - (rest of file name as usual)"
The same goes for any weird typos, even if it's a misspelling and not something audible, so Gigaflare can make sure the text matches the audio - and makes sense.

Thank you kindly! I'm very critical of my own tracks so they never sound good enough to me, plus I'm not completely familiar with the original voices so I'm just putting out what I can and hoping something will fit somewhere. I heard some of your Dunmer and they are quite impressive! That seems to be a very unique voice type.

Both the first and 'commanding' versions sounded good to me - maybe a bit of lowering could help, but not too much would be needed.
For the Khajiit, the tongue trill sounds too forced. A uvular trill would sound more like the purr the original voice actor had. This is where you let your uvula do the 'roll' - like gargling.

Here's my attempte at Gilvas Barelo.
I love voice acting, and I'm really interested in contributing. Unfortunately, it seems that my voice is just a bit too high, too nasal-y to do the dark elves I so cherish.
I'll try to post at attempt at some Wood Elf, Breton, or Imperial lines later today. Maybe I'd do better.
In the meantime, what's your #1 trick you've used to get the rolling, throaty voices of Argonians and Dark Elves?

The easiest way to pull off
The easiest way to pull off male Dunmer is to throat sing. If you don't know how, it's apparently hard to learn. Once you 'get it' you can just turn on at will. This is how Dragomir does Dunmer, and it's part of mine and even Jeff Baker's (he did Dunmer in Morrowind and Ghouls in Fallout this way). It's also the secret to Popeye's voice. No matter how high your voice is normally, your throat singy voice will be deep. Add a but of rasp to it and boom - instant Dunmer.
You're right. It is hard. It
You're right. It is hard. It's still something I'd like to do, considering how many Dark Elves are in Morrowind. (What a surprise!)
Here's another, unrelated attempt for less-interesting yet-still vital bit character Graitan Carelli.

I really liked your character reel! I think you would be perfect for Redguards. Many of them have been assigned, but I feel your voice might work better for some of them than the ones that are currently listed. Likewise, you would be great for imperials and potentially Dunmer (judging from your pro-wrestler clip you can probably do the rasp well).

I think a tongue trill could work. It just needs to be softer. Listening to the Khajiit sounds from Morrowind, I've noticed she does both uvular and tongue trills. You just have to let them come naturally. Don't overthink it. ^-^

The voice itself sounds like it could be good, but there's a lot of noise and it's hard to listen for nuance. Also, listening to other clips from your Soundcloud you can hear noise artifacts that would have to be cleaned up. Listen to the 'gaps' between lines in your Ordinator voice and you'll hear an undulating scrawly sound. Some of my recordings had that, too, for a while. Langotriel's tricks work wonders, though. Definitely look at his two tutorials on the first page of this thread.
Whenever you have a region you think is quiet, just highlight a small portion of it and 'normalize it', just to see what's really detected there. Whenever you increase the bass, compress, or normalize the rest of the track, you will also be normalizing that noise, too - making it more noticeable.

As far as I can tell, Khajiit have all been taken - save for S'virr. That part just opened up recently as te one who had 'called it' disappeared without completing it. Since, there have been quite a few people who can do a decent Khajiit who have showed interest in it. I'll have to find out from other folks who gets 'dibs'ing rights. In the future, I truly hope we'll have several more 'idle' lines, and since there are several prisoners and slaves, this would increase the need for new Khajiit and Argonian voice actors. You might want to try out for some other races for now, though.
That bring said, your recordings have a lot of white noise in them. Follow Langotriel's tutorials on the first page of this thread for ideas on how to clean up your audio.

Thanks for the help and suggestions, guys! I'll work on my trills and post new samples when I get around to them. I've been listening to some of the original Morrowind voice files so that should help.
I don't know if this is blasphemy to say, but I found some of the original female voice/accent choices to be rather odd. I suppose it's different when immersed in the game though.
Has anyone had a chance to hear the voice work in TESO? It's AMAZING. But then again, they got some pretty big names for that one. [External image]

I would be really interested in voicing Vivec. I looked up his voice that was found in the original game files but not used. I also have a YouTube channel and I am planning on doing a Role Play of Skywind once it is ready. I would love to be able to tell my subs that I took part in the game and I am already stirring hype for it. I just don't know where to find the script for Vivec. I have tried to look all around this page and can't find anything. I would love to help. Thanks.

Our Excel sheet is the one used for Morroblivion before, and I think they may have just used the direct voice files from Morrowind for those lines - so they weren't included. We'll have all new actors for the lines, but for now I think Stij is talking with higher powers on how they should sound.

I'm attaching a link to some samples of my work for Ahnassi here. I didn't make her voice quite as abrasive as some other Khajiit, because I figured she's supposed to be a bit sexier (she is a romance option, afterall) but *hopefully* she still has that signature Khajiit flare.

I really like the timbre of her voice. As it is she would be great for Imperials. I would like to hear her take on other races too. Also, what types of roles would she be looking for - just a few of the several smaller roles that would give her some freedom to 'change it up a bit', or might she be willing to take on some more substantial roles?
I could assign her to some imperials now, but the real priority is on filling roles for the Dunmer. There are well over 200 parts of various sizes and right now only 4 women assigned to any of them. I wonder if you could have your mother give it a try?
Linda Kenyon (the woman who voiced the Dunmer in Morrowind and all the elves in Oblivion) had a very distinctive voice and read her lines in a slow and thoughtful manner. She was elderly, and her voice was clear with a slight quaver. These traits combined leant her characters a sense of wisdom beyond their age, which was perfect for the pragmatic and long-lived Dunmer.
If your mother has a malleable enough voice, could she read some Dunmer lines with an 'elderly yet powerful' voice? If she could emulate the dignified tone and careful enunciation of Angela Bassett with the poetic rhythm of Maya Angelou, that would be ideal - for Ashlanders especially!
A couple pages back at the bottom you can listen to Apsara's audition using her normal voice and then modulated slightly to appear 'older' as a good reference (though a British accent is not necessarily required for all Dunmer roles).
Hey guys!
