Hey, I'd love to help out with the voice acting, if possible. Here are some audition clips for male Khajiit, Argonians, Dunmer and Humans (all Nords as I'm not confident in the quality of my British accent).
If any of this is good, warrants some re-takes with notes, or if you'd like me to try my hand at different lines, just let me know. If it looks like I could help out, I'd be willing to do as few or as many characters of any importance as you'd like.
Most of the file-names are not what's needed for submission, as I did 1 file / character, but I tried to pick out the filename that most readily identified the NPC. For each NPC I chose, however, I did all their lines.
I followed the tutorials above, so it should be relatively clean.
I did the Argonians in two different ways, one in which I do my best impression of their Oblivion voice and one that uses a bit of modulation to achieve something that sounds right to me, basically doing a Dr. Claw voice then kicking the pitch up dramatically.

Nice, stij! I'm also back from an unprecedented leave; life gets in the way sometimes. But I've got free time now, and I'm ready to do more lines.
Speaking of which, I had finished Vistha-Kai's line about a month ago, but I guess it went unnoticed. I'll re-upload it here so you might see it.
Also, I'm working on voicing Im-Kilaya. Can I get dibs on that?

There is a pretty significant echo in the recordings. Perhaps a liberal application of pillows is needed?

There are several issues as of now. First, The audio is far from clean. Follow Langotriel's tutorials on the first page of this thread.
Limit the noise as much as you can - no air conditioners, no televisions or washing machines or cats in your room when recording. Also, put some blankets behind your mic to prevent echo from the walls and hardwood, etc. It sounds like you're far back from the mic when you talk. Get about 6-8 inches from the mic when you record. If you're using a cheap microphone or headset mic it still might not be work out well - even if you get closer.
As for the voices themselves, we're pretty discriminatory. A few pages back Stij (and further back still I myself) posted some examples of various 'approved' Dunmer voices that have the raspy sound from Morrowind that we're going for. The Argonians and Khajiit don't quite sound like what were going for either, and Langotriel wants the Nords to sound like proper Old Norse (I posted a link to a video on pronunciation of old Norse a couple weeks ago). You might be able to effect a 'Redguard accent', though? If you can clean up the audio you might want to try reading some Redguard lines.
Heya,
Heya,
Thinking I'd like to help out with this as I have decent recording equipment and it would amuse me to have my mates hearing me shouting at them in this game one day!
Though I've played a LOT of Skyrim I'm not an Elder Scrolls expert, and there's such a wealth of information packed onto this forum, some quite hard to sift through for my ADD brain, that I'm not sure where to start!
I've done voice work in the past so I'm not worried about the technical aspect of getting a decent recording, but I would really appreciate some guidance from someone who's well-acquainted with how things are going with the project on where my dubious talents might be best used - which races it would be best for me to record samples for, what characters I might want to set my sights on that haven't been done, etc etc.
I know this is probably really lazy of me so feel free to tell me to suck it up and trawl the threads but I'm worried I'd never manage to pull out the right information left to my own devices!
I have a low (alto) female voice, though I could probably raise it in pitch if needed.
My natural accent is mild Scottish.
(I only remember like one Scottish man (Brynolf? The guy who wants you to steal from the Argonian in Riften) in Skyrim and even his accent was very dodgy so I don't know if Scots is an accent that's got a particular analogue in Skyrim?)
I can also do a flawless broad Scots, and a competent 'LotR'-elf-style English. A linguist by education I could also copy any accent I think but I would need samples of it to copy, so if this is about replacing bad old sound files I might be able to do just about anything.
I'm NOT good at making my voice old or unpleasantly harsh, though I can do 'hard-drinking warrior' or 'sexy bartender'-style creaky, if that makes sense?
Suggestions on where to find some lines to start with and upload, or particular characters I might want to try my hand at would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, I know I'm probably being a total pain!
~Mo
PS: I can also hold a tune - do any characters have to sing the way they do in Skyrim? I'm assuming not or this would've been included in the write-ups somewhere but I can probably help out with that if needs be?
Hey Marrog. Just try posting
Hey Marrog. Just try posting a few voice clips to SoundCloud. If you have a Scottish accent you might be able to pull off Nords quite well. Try some Nord lines in your natural voice and again trying to imitate 'old Norse'.
Of course I would be remiss if I didn't ask you to try some Dunmer lines, too. That's what we have the most need for. The most important thing with Dunmer is the rhythm, slow and thoughtful. Low voices are better than higher ones. Several of my posts the past couple pages go into greater detail on female Dunmer voices. If you can affect a British accent you might be suitable for House Hlaalu Dunmer, or just some of the more 'noble' individuals.
Once I hear your voice I might be able to come up with some specific characters you can try. Be sure to clean the audio by following Langotriel's videos on the first page of this thread. I look forward to hearing what you come up with!

So, I've noticed that all of the male bosmer roles are completed and my interpretation of a dunmer is different to what you want to achieve. So I picked a specific Dunmer to do, namely Tholer Saryoni and did some of his lines.
There are two versions. I've added some more bass to the first version of the record and the second one is pitched down a little. Please let me know, if you like it and if so, which better.
The second character, I would like to audition for is the nord bandit Botrir. I have recorded two versions of selected lines. One is in my normal accent and within the second one, I have tried to do some 'old Norse'-style thing.
I appreciate any type of feedback or critisism! Also, let me know if you think, that another character would fit better on my accent or voice. You probably are the better judges when it comes to this :D

Hey, it's been awhile haha. Well, I've some bad news, sadly I am not able to continue on the project for a time due to some complications(I won't get into them right now.) So I've been incredibly busy and haven't had time to really dive in and finish the characters assigned to me which are Plitinius Mero and Raxle Berne. All the rest that are "assigned" to me, are completed and have already been submitted to the skydrive. I'm not sure when my time will get freed up, so if anyone wants those two roles, they are more than welcome to them.

Hey guys, I'm new here. I thought I'd try some voice acting so I opened up that spreadsheat and found a dunmer male that I thought had cool lines named Berel Sala. I don't know if anyone has done his lines already. How do you figure that out? If he's already taken that's cool, I'd love to do some more voices. Let me know what you think of my recordings, what I can do better, other characters my voice might work well with and so on and so on.

I like the sound of the voice! Very unique take on the Dunmer, but it still has a great rasp to it.
There is an echo to the sound though. It almost sounds like an effect. If it's just a matter of recording conditions, you might want to set some blankets up behind your mic.

SmitehammerI really like the timbre of her voice. As it is she would be great for Imperials. I would like to hear her take on other races too. Also, what types of roles would she be looking for - just a few of the several smaller roles that would give her some freedom to 'change it up a bit', or might she be willing to take on some more substantial roles?
I could assign her to some imperials now, but the real priority is on filling roles for the Dunmer. There are well over 200 parts of various sizes and right now only 4 women assigned to any of them. I wonder if you could have your mother give it a try?
Linda Kenyon (the woman who voiced the Dunmer in Morrowind and all the elves in Oblivion) had a very distinctive voice and read her lines in a slow and thoughtful manner. She was elderly, and her voice was clear with a slight quaver. These traits combined leant her characters a sense of wisdom beyond their age, which was perfect for the pragmatic and long-lived Dunmer.
If your mother has a malleable enough voice, could she read some Dunmer lines with an 'elderly yet powerful' voice? If she could emulate the dignified tone and careful enunciation of Angela Bassett with the poetic rhythm of Maya Angelou, that would be ideal - for Ashlanders especially!
A couple pages back at the bottom you can listen to Apsara's audition using her normal voice and then modulated slightly to appear 'older' as a good reference (though a British accent is not necessarily required for all Dunmer roles).
My mom (Dina) would be pleased to take on any roles you have to offer, big or small. It would be great if we could start her off with some Imperials for now, and I'll have her listen to Apsara's audition and submit another audition as a Dunmer tomorrow evening, using the suggestions you mentioned.
Also, during recording, would you prefer that she does what she did in the last audition (reading each line multiple times in different ways), or would you prefer she just read each line once?

It's good to do multiple takes just so you can go back and pick the line that best suits the context. But you will have to use your own best judgment and submit the individual lines saved in the file format from the Excel sheet.

I would like to become involved in the voice-over project. However, I'm currently on just a laptop (specifically a Chromebook) until later this week when my computer arrives. Ideally, if no one is working on it, I would like to do voice work for Vivec. I understand that he plays a major role in the game and has a LOT of informational dialogue, so if I need to "prove myself" by doing smaller samples (such as generic NPCs) first, I understand. Also, an idea I had, since Vivec's visual appearance is half-Dunmer and half-Chimer, perhaps having two voices recorded with synchronized pattern and emphasis would be the best approach to make him sound the most believable.

To what extent should the self-referential lines be changed? For instance, Briring has this to say:
| He's remarkably educated and well-spoken for a barbarian, but he knows the things a barbarian should know. |
Now, saying "I'm remarkably well educated ... but I know ..." while it would make sense, is still not the kind of thing a person says about themselves. So I'm wondering if these lines are being changed conservatively to stay in line with the original script, or for instance if something more like
I'm quite well educated for a barbarian - but I still know the things a barbarian needs to know.
Would be better, or perhaps something in-between or further from the original.
Cheers.

I'm also rather confused by the self-referential lines some characters have. I'm working on Im-Kilaya, but one of his lines states:
| I'm sorry, citizen, but you must speak to our leader, the consul, Im-Kilaya. We cannot help you. |
Here, Im-Kilaya is saying that he can't help the player, so the player needs to look for Im-Kilaya for help. Even if the wording of the sentence is changed, the meaning still remains. And it makes no sense. Why does this line even exist? [External image]

From what I understand, we are unfortunately stuck with one set of 'attack' 'injury' sounds for each race and sex, so our voices will have to sound somewhat similar. The acting is great, and some of the voices could still be used.
The way you did Baladas was good for Dunmer, as it retains some of the raspiness common to the other Dunmer so far. Baladas has been assigned according to the list I have before me, and many others you auditioned for are also marked as 'taken'. But I liked your commanding tone in your Caius Cosades audition, your Dunmer Baladas, and . Let's see if we can find any Legionnaire-type characters that haven't been assigned yet. Here's the Google Doc Gigarat made for us that I've been using to assign roles.
As far as the sound quality, there is something muffled and loud about the recording - especially noticeable on the essess. I wish Langotriel were here to better pin-down your problem. If he comes back, maybe he can help you troubleshoot that issue.

I'm not sure exactly what is going on with these lines, but it seems like they are spoken by someone else, directing you to speak to the person in question. I don't know where that leaves us, but I've changed the lines in question, recorded something sensible, and made a note in the filename as to what I've changed. So for the above example, I recorded:
I'm just a guard here at the embassy, but I know a thing or two about surviving in Morrowind.
In any case, I have now recorded all of Briring's lines. Since stij and Lango seem to still be having internet troubles I'm still not sure if I'm officially on for Briring, but here they are anyway. For convenience, I've quoted my sequence of posts regarding this:

I liked the first sample, ...
I realised I should check if Langotriel needs to sign off on the Nord. The 'R's are not very rolled, which seems to have been a common theme for other Nords! I can do the kind of accent that Langotriel demonstrated, although it sounds a bit Russian (Perhaps in a stereotypical way; I don't know if that's a problem...) or a Scottish accent in which some of the 'R's roll naturally.
Of course if more than one is acceptable then I can record other Nords with them, for more variety.
Here are those accents. One Scottish at my natural pitch, one Scottish lower (no pitch-shifting) and which sounds like the weird Russian hybrids people have been demonstrating :P
http://www.fishface.org.uk/static/stuff/Botrir-accent-tests.mp3
Personally I'd love to see some Yorkshire and Scottish Nords, but see what you think. I still don't have a Dunmer voice that works, unfortunately.
Thanks. Hopefully this is acceptable.

The context is that there is a small quest in which the player is sent to the Argonian Mission to ask for charity for the poor. When you inquire about "alms for the poor," all of the other NPCs inside the Mission direct you to Im-Kilaya with the quote I gave. It just doesn't make any sense that Im-Kilaya himself would say it, because he himself has four unique responses to the topic that further the quest. I don't even think it's possible for him to say it. But if he does say it somehow, what could he possibly say instead?

There's a few variations in that link too, some are a little younger sounding.
Do you reckon that voice would fit with a grizzled old character like Ulfgar then?

I've done some less aged voices in those samples on the soundcloud as well, and if you're happy with any of them, I'd love to go through and knock out the 10-15 or so characters with like 1-2 lines. As you say, I'd definitely check their age/appearance and try to match them up.
