Clothing

Submitted by Miltiades on

Sorry if this has been adressed before or if this is intentional, but several clothing items being worn by the local populace have a very odd shoulder placement. Also, their lower arms have 'gaps'.

Comparing them to the character models from TES3 yields an almost identical model.

Armor and such seems unaffected and the shoulders are positioned normally when wearing. Yet when seeing npc's in Morroblivion Morrowind clothes, it is almost as if I'm looking at TES3:Morrowind models. The same effect happens to my character when I try to wear them and makes me look like a ... I don't know... higher resolution Morrowind character Tongue

So I'm not sure if this is intentional, or some strange issue with the meshes.

I'm using Morroblivion v0.16 (just installed today)

Greetz,

Milt

Morrowind clothing is simply not fully compatible with Oblivion bodies; it never will be. There will always be some issues with clothing, especially in 1st person, but not with armor. I am NOT going to replace all Morrowind clothing with Oblivion clothing (except the most odious items like most skirts and a few shirts that caused totally invisible arms). Maybe I'm the only one, but I like Morrowind clothing and the look and feel of it. I do not want Morrowind to look like another Oblivion mod.

So it was intentional then. That's all I wanted to know. True, it had a certain sense of familiarity to it when I saw those saggy shoulders and segmented arms. It was just that I didn't know if it was a bug or a feature. And the armors showing up properly made it even more confusing ;)

I guess we could add this issue to the Morrowind_ob.esm Help Requested thread...

And I don't mean just replacing with Oblivion clothes, I mean porting Morrowind clothes to Oblivion, like they did for armor in Vvardenfell Imports.  Searching TESnexus however, it looks like no one has done this work, so it would have to be done by someone pretty experienced with meshes and textures...

Better clothing mod which was optomized for better bodies might work a bit better then the default bodies Morrowind had.  Majority of all the clothing in there is a bit bulkier and should fit a little better on the Oblivion style of models.  Can test those out and see how they work.

Some screenshot galaries of better clothes.  They overwrite the original cloths models and stuff in Morrowind just so you know.

Morrowind clothing that fits Oblivion bodies is just a daydream... especially with Tes5 on the Horizon. When I first started, I contacted TheMythOfAnst and Grolf, two prolific modelers that I thought might help. Grolf had actually written the Morroblivion instructions that I had used to get started. TheMythOfAnst has retired from modding, and Grolf flat-out refused. I even tried contacting ColourWheel because she is so prolific, and I was hoping maybe she had fond memories of Morrowind. But she did not even respond. What we have is what we get. Eloth said he was working on a clothing replacer, that can be used as a Mod for the Master, that will switch Oblivion clothing items for Morrowind items, but I have not heard how he's doing on that or when he will finish.

With Noebius improved clothes pack, I have invisible arms in 1st person, in 3rd person it is ok

That's the same thing happens with all the clothes converted from the Morrowind. So far no one has found a way to fix it.

Some time ago,  I enjoyed importing clothes made by morrowind modders into oblivion, for personal use ofcourse.

 Here are a few examples:

Some stuff from  Alienslofs morrowind  mod

sword and dress from Tommy's Excotic Boutique

[External image]

Stuff from Canadian Ice's metal queen

a predator from the Morrowind Predator mod

[External image]

some dress from tommy and Kathryn's morrowind mod Kat's Kastle

My point is that because the clothes made by modders for Morrowind, with some ease can be ported to Oblivion, it may somehow be possible to convert the vanilla clothes in such a way that there are no missing body parts.

I am very fond of the morrowind vanilla clothes, and I would prefer them to Oblivion's any time.

The clothes from the Better Clothes mod is a lot easier on the eyes yes,

but if there are good reasons to use vanilla instead,

then go for vanilla. It will save time and effort.

People can then add the Better Clothes mod on their own time if they so desire.

edit: About first person, not all clothes designed for Morrowind show up in first person in Oblivion unfortunately. The vanilla ones have problems.

Here is a dress ensemble with gloves that does show up in first person, nifs by NioLiv and Psychodogstudios and texture by Kathryn

Notice how the morrowind dress neck, clips through Oblivions body neck?

Here are the first person hands. Notice how the Morrowind Better Bodies thumbs get twisted and bent by Oblivion?

[External image]

Maybe there is a solution to the problem with some clothes showing up in first person whilst others refuse to show?

 Edit2: apropos better clothes mod

This is a shirt from better clothes mod. It's common shirt 01, if I'm not mistaking. It is a T-shirt almost so my character had to put on a couple of better bodies' arms to complete the shirt. Well anyways, just to show, this is what that looks like.

Clothing issues have been pretty much wrapped up thanks to Eloth and Hashmi1 and OldWolf58
