Langotriel

Listening to it now, the S and CH sounds are a little sharp.. the sound in general is not perfect.. if you feel you could do better, then go for it! if not, clear up those sharp sounds

Here is my another recording for Engar Ice-Mane:

https://soundcloud.com/szarles/skywind-engar-ice-mane-v3

Is it better than the previous one? I have tried to eliminate the background noise and echo as much as possible by recording in a different setup. I have also softened the piercing sounds this time, as per instructions in the video tutorial.

Szarles! its good.. the sound quality is superb :) Thank you very much! if you could make that downloadable then that would be great!

Cool, thanks! :) Here is the link to exported files:

Kolfinna is in the works and I should be back with another take soon.

@Langotriel, I have experience in drama so I would assume that would lend itself to experience in voice acting.  I would love to do voice acting.

@gamergirl87

Right! Then the next step is very easy. Get audacity (software) and after you have that, download the Lame MP3 encoder for it.. the installation procedure are standard. Then watch the audacity tutorials on the first page of this thread for help on how to use the program..

Find a race or character you think you will be suited for and then record and upload to the appropriate voice acting thread :)

Good Luck!

Right! I am off to London! see everyone in.. 38 hours!

I'm sorry, everyone.  I'm not sure we can even keep recording until some serious work is done restructuring the dialogue.  The old guard were unorganized in ways that boggle my mind.  That lack of organization preemptively killed this portion of the project.  Now I have to figure out how to lift the husk-that-never-even-was on a slab in a lightning storm and try to Frankenstein together a coherent script from which we, the voice actors, may read.

I've been trying to fix up the Excel, converting it to a Google Doc in the hopes that we can edit everything and fix the problems as we go, but the fact is the Excel is just missing HUGE SWATHS of dialogue.  It's even worse than I had originally thought.  Let me just try to begin to explain the situation, and why it's worthless to even bother recording at the moment.

The only people with 'directional lines', pointing out the smith of a town, or who the Duke is and where he can be found, are those characters themselves.  So, fine.  We have to take those lines away from the characters that have them currently, and give them to other nearby characters for whom they actually make sense.

A TON of characters with 'unique dialogue' have no unique greetings.  FINE.  We write new greetings for them, I guess.  Except, a lot of them DO have unique greetings -- they just don't show up in the Excel!

In the Excel, Ashur-Dan has two lines of dialogue, both greetings.

"I am Ashur-Dan, the trader."

"Our trader, Ashur-Dan, has his yurt with the ashkhan's and the gulakhan's yurts."

Notice how that second one makes no sense?  It should be what all OTHER members of his tribe say when asked about 'trader'.

Now, the UESP for Ashur-Dan has many more lines, most of which aren't found in the Excel file at ALL.

  • Greeting:
"I am Ashur-Dan. I am the trader here at Zainab camp. So. You want to know the trade goods wanted among the Zainab. I can tell you what I think."
"It's you again. So. You want to know the trade goods wanted among the Zainab? I can tell you what I think."
  • trader:
"I am Ashur-Dan, the trader."
  • trade goods wanted:
"I think we Zainab need little that we cannot provide. We have always lived our own ways, and lived well. There are many fine things that might be had from the settled peopled. But what use have the Zainab for these things? I am a trader, and would be glad to make a profit. But I can think of nothing wanted that we do not already have."
(Disposition at least 50) "I think we Zainab need little that we cannot provide. We have always lived our own ways, and lived well. There are many fine things that might be had from the settled peopled. But what use have the Zainab for these things? I am a trader, and would be glad to make a profit. But I can think of nothing wanted that we do not already have. But I do not know everything. Go speak with the men and women of the tribe. Ask them. Perhaps they will have ideas."
(Disposition at least 50) "I can't think of anything. But go speak with the men and women of the tribe. Ask them. Perhaps they will have ideas."

So he's missing his unique greeting, as well as any references to quests.

And he's not alone.  They all are.  ALL the NPCs are.  Unless they are the ones that GIVE you the quest?  They won't have the dialogue related to it.  Kaushad is the one that gives you the quest 'Telvanni Bride', and he says a lot of stuff about it in his dialogue.  But that's it.  He's the only one you can ask about 'Telvanni Bride'.  His wise woman has important information regarding the Telvanni Bride, but you can't ask her about it - not even an option.  That line of dialogue would never be recorded because it's not THERE.  Dratha and Therana should have unique lines of dialogue if you ask them about 'Telvanni Bride', too.  Here's Therana's line from the UESP:

  • Telvanni bride: "That's lovely, dear, but I don't think so. I have so much to do around here. Besides, I'm already married. I'm fairly sure. Avos. Or Aren. I think. Little fellow. He's around here somewhere. Some sort of magic thing. Quite funny, actually. Did I tell you? About how easy it is to get those caretellian coordinates mixed up? Oh, dear... really quite a laugh. Quite funny. Yes, indeed. Ehr.... What were we talking about?"

That's a unique line of dialogue that isn't covered by the Excel.  No quest-related dialogue lines are in the thing.  At all.  Unless it's the person that GIVES you the quest.

In other words, it looks like probably most of what has been recorded so far is incomplete.  Because no one bothered to FIX this steaming pile.  All of that effort?  Likely wasted.  And it will continue to be wasted unless I get some people to help me fix this damned thing.  We need to cross reference the lines we have with the actual construction set and make sure every character has the line they're supposed to.

Until we get this cleared away, there seems to be no point in recording anything.  It must all be put on hold.  You want to do some voice acting?  Me too.  That's the reason I'm here.  If you want to help out and get to a point where the lines you read aren't wasted, help me out here.  It's a lot of lines to cross reference.  A lot of lines.  Twenty-thousand lines - and that's just the ones in the Excel, which so far seems to be missing a very large portion of the actual lines.

We need a small army to fix this garbage.  Consider this my recruitment drive.

One single document to hold all those lines of voice acting... no surprise it's screwed up. The original was automatically created, wasn't it? Maybe breaking it down into smaller chunks - Dunmer males, Khajiit females etc. - and then going from there. Because automation can only do so much - most (if not all) of this kind of work may well have to be done by hand.

I would be willing to help as long as there is some sort of tutorial available. Do I need Morrowind installed to do this?

Oh dear, that's unfortunate. It sounds like a whole project in itself. Okay. Don't. Panic. [External image]

I'm sure you guys are probably already banging out solutions, but I'll just put in my first thoughts about it that I have (and you've probably already thought of this yourself). I'm thinking maybe what we need is a new forum segment for script writing. You could put out a call for script technicians and post tutorials for extracting specific character dialog and assign characters much like you do with the voice actors, this way they would be done by the priority you see fit. Then if some of the voice actors wanted to do the script for their own assigned characters, they would have a reference for how to do it, and could submit the new script along with the edited and missing voice tracks. But I do think it would help to have people in addition to the voice actors to be put specifically on script extraction. It would certainly take some of the burden off. And then as characters are submitted, you could just update here in the voice acting forum (perhaps a new, separate thread?) with a quick post to alert people, like...

"Ashur-Dan, Therana, and Dratha scripts are now complete!"

...Then the VAs could get to work on completing their assigned character tracks. *whip crack*
It's a lot of work initially, yes, but I think it would smooth itself out. The most difficult thing, I think, is  getting the volunteers.

So I don't know if any of this is useful or possible, it may be more complicated than I'm comprehending, but in the meanwhile, I'll see if I can acquire what I need to at least check out the construction set because I'd like to help.  Otherwise, I'll be standing by with a lightning rod, willing the frankenproject to LIIIIVE!!

Sad to say that I'm not up for helping organise all this mess with you, but I CAN wish you luck from the sidelines :P

I'm yet another Voice Actor, looking to possibly do Vivec's voice. Not entirely sure I fit the bill, but I'll upload some samples and let you be the judges.

I'd like to try my hand at the voice of Vivec. I'll be able to record some line tomorrow. My only question is, what kind of voice are we expecting Vivec to have? I played Morrowind a very long time ago and I don't remember him having any kind of small greeting and I can't find anything online. When I played the game, I kind of imagined him having a thick, deep voice you might expect from a god, but now I'm thinking he might sound more dark elvish than that.

What do you guys think?

My mom (Dina) would be pleased to take on any roles you have to offer, big or small. It would be great if we could start her off with some Imperials for now, and I'll have her listen to Apsara's audition and submit another audition as a Dunmer tomorrow evening, using the suggestions you mentioned.

Sorry about not getting you the recordings. My mom's been feeling a little sick recently, and hasn't felt up to recording. I had her listen to Apsara's rendition of the Dunmer, and my mom thinks that she can pull it off. I'll have her recordings in, of both Imperial and Dunmer, as soon as she's feeling a little better.

Hi! Last time we spoke (about one month ago; last post quoted above), you had listened to my mom's voice, and had thought that she would be good for an Imperial. Nevertheless, you requested that I give her a shot at Dunmer to potentially clear up the huge backlog of lines that need recording. At the time, my mom had a bit of a sore throat, which lasted for much longer than it should have. But she's recovered, and I had her give it a go with Arns Saren, a minor Dunmer role with only three lines, just so you can judge whether she'd be fit for Dunmer voices. Sorry about the long wait.

Hi! New here. I would love to attempt voice acting but from what I can gather from the absolute mess of the very first post, anything I might like to do is taken. I don't know what else to do other than let.... somebody... know that I'm available. No idea what to do beyond that.

Give us an audition.  We're in the middle of reworking some things, so it might be a while before you can record, but we can at least hear you, and give some feedback - possibly even assign you.

I'll do just that! As soon as my mic cooperates. Awesome little punk that it is.

I don't actually have access to the Morrowind+expansions atm, guess I'll either have to wait for the voice lines to be fixed, or get the game and check it out for myself.

I would like--if it's okay-- to submit these by way of audition;

https://www.mediafire.com/folder/oha758d0183tt7d,9276g23ylxugo9m,do56wu440w9ytub,ijl7bmmdg1qc6v8,ogp5odze70m4ajd,rd3xcpy27dq3m8n/shared

I only submit these by way of audition; If the modders think that my voicework would be an asset to the project, I will then sit down, record each individual segment in MP3 format, and deposit them in the correct folders, as per instructions.

I just wanted to see first whether or not my work would be acceptable before making that kind of commitment.

I have done voicework before for the Elder Scrolls community, most notably for Middark's "Heart of the Dead" for Oblivion, in which I got to voice Dublin Stormfallow, and The Collector. Currently, I am doing voicework for Anduniel's companions in Skyrim (Darion Fleetfoot).

I liked most of your voices - the Argonian sounded a but too much like a Khajiit, and the orc could stand to be a bit deeper.  For the orcs, jut out your jaw when you talk.  This will give your esses a bit of a Sean Connery sh sound, and make it seem like your mouth has large tusks in the way.

We'll have to wait and see hiw the new dialogue will be arranged and see who we can get hold of to redo their lines, so some already-called characters may open up again.  We're not focusing on voicing the gods or Daedric Princes just yet.

As far as the quality, i could hear some shuffling noises in the background.  Make sure to eliminate noise contamination as best you can.

Thank you for the feedback. I will wait for an assignment, if one comes up. And of course I will be careful to record properly and in the requested format. I will apply your suggestion for the Orc voice. Would it help if I made the Argonian voice more sibilant?

Hello I just found this and i'm not entirely sure what to do for helpin out voices but I showed interest in these two roles i found throughout the docs that weren't taken. I'll leave 'em here just in case they're of any use. perhaps even a voice could be used elsewhere I just hope to be of any help ^-^ hopefully format doesn't matter at this point ^-^;;

I'm back, back in the New York groove...

Actually I've never been to New York but anyway, ready to dust off the ole Mic and start recording (and aparrently re-recording from the sounds of it)

Dropped off some auditions in the appropriate threads. Interested in feedback, and it said to do that in the HUB thread. :P

Edit: I attached files in the audition threads, but for your convenience here, I made a soundcloud playlist.

Just a question, has it ben anny changes wher you should upload your recordings? Or is it just too throw it in a link here?

I thought I would try for Dovor Oren. I figured he'd be a bit snobbish. I might have to try for a Breton; I have trouble getting the same gravelly sounding voice the Dark Elves had in Morrowind.

Howdy folks,

I've been following this for quite some time. I'd be interested in getting involved on the voice acting side.

I currently voice act in a professional capacity but I started in mods. I've provided unique NPC voices for a few of the more well-known Skyrim mods out there, like 'Descent into Madness', 'Syerscote' and 'Interesting NPCs'. I'm also heavily involved in the upcoming 'Rochbere'.

Some of my work is available on my site and I can also provide youtube links, for example an orc or a khajiit.

How can I get involved?

SO GREAT. My cat chewed through my mic cord. Not that i'd get a chance anyway, since there's a professional in a post above me who does my two favorite races, THE BASTARD. : P

I'd love to try anyway.

Pretty good! A few things I would try. The orcs have large tusks, so as part of the natural 'accent' jut out your lower jaw when doing the orc voice. You'll find your esses will have a slight 'Sean Connery' sound to them, but you'll really sound like you have tusks. For the Khajiit, you have the accent down. Just try to add a little bit of smoker's voice to it. Not so much as Dunmer, but a slight rasp really helps. Also, if you can do a uvular trill, this sounds good for 'purring' to show mild affection at appropriate times. Please post auditions for these or any other races in their appropriate audition thread.

Hey guys, this is my first VO stuff so I need some tips on what I'm doing right and wrong (helps a lot knowing both). Here's a sample: https://soundcloud.com/alex-sanchez-154/argonian-audition-1

Edit: didn't realize it was so quiet when I was in audacity.

So are all the Argonians voiced now? I couldn't open any of the male argonian characters available but I saw that it said Zammuel: completed

Nothing's been completed at this point.  We're starting over from scratch.

I posted a few clips under the special characters session. Here they are if you haven't heard:

Vivec:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/e9qhlx7xez8havu/vivectobeagod.wav

Mudcrab:

I'd also be happy to do any creatures or monster sounds. But I'm down to try out any voice.

Hey! My brother and I are really interested in trying out for any of the voices available but I'm a bit confused by where we get the dialogue?

We're currently sorting through the dialogue, overhauling everything to make sure the lines are all there and that they match up with what's in the game.

In the meanwhile, if you just want lines to audition, the Excel file on the second post of the first page of this thread will work.  Or just say anything, really.  The voice is what's important, not really what you say.

Are you guys still updating the Morroblivion voice mod or just Skywind? If yes, when will we get a new version?

Is there still a need for help with cross referencing all the lines of dialogue? And if so how can I help?

Are some of the main quest characters listed in the introduction by stijmunkey still in need of voices? I believe I've seen a few posts about not having auditions for Vivec and other such characters just yet.

This is the old voice acting thread, meaning it is not being used any longer. Most if not all voices have to be redone because of problems with the voice acting script, which is not done yet. There is no estimate on when it is done I am afraid.

So this is an awkward place to leave feedback, but since the rules are to leave feedback for voice auditions here, I'll just follow that.

I'm hearing a lot of people do auditions using their computer mics and it's really unprofessional sounding.  There are some really cheap USB condenser mics you can get on amazon for less than $50.  They aren't amazing, but you can still use them and they won't have that feedback sound that you hear.

Also.... USE A POP FILTER, PEOPLE.  That's the filter you see that people put into the microphone that keeps you from getting the blowing puff sound in the microphone when you speak into it.

Here's the stuff you need.

A mic... I recommend something like the Blue Yeti

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Yeti-USB-Microphone/dp/B002VA464S/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1405482367&sr=1-1

A pop filter

http://www.amazon.com/Studio-Microphone-Screen-Flexible-Gooseneck/dp/B008AOH1O6/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1405482419&sr=1-1&keywords=pop+filter+for+microphones

And audacity for free.  That's really all you NEED.  If you have good recording software where you can EQ your voice a little better, then go for it.

Jympagel, where did it say to post feedback here? This is the old voice acting hub, you'll find the new one here.

My bad, I did say to post under the old hub, but the new hub works for such feedback now, too, so I've changed the wording.

Sounds like a good idea, no reason to make this more messy than it has to be :P

Hi, I'm more interested in the morroblivion voiced files. It seems that ever since the forum was split into old and new voice hubs, the latest version number is stuck on v0.5. Is the morroblivion version still being developed and is there a place to go to download the latest?

No new work is being done on Morroblivion voice files.  I doubt the work that will be done for Skywind will be reworked for Morroblivion, as there are to be considerable differences.

Hey there, I did a considerable amount of voice work for this last year and it seems it's all being overhauled. I've got a feeling I'm no longer in the project. Could someone please contact me about this ASAP?

Yeah, it's all having to be redone.  The old script was missing critical lines for quests and directing players to NPCs.  We took the opportunity to add in Idle Banter as well.  The new VAs will be held to a high standard of quality, and all roles will be assigned by Langotriel and myself.  It has taken nine months but the revised script will be done by the second week of December.  We will be going through all the auditions to assign roles soon, but you still have a chance to audition.
