Hi!
I am a 25 year old student at a university living in Sweden, studying Audio engineering and music production. Been a long term fan of the Elder scrolls series. I'm cutting to the chase here; I am incredibly eager to contribute to Skywind. Given my experience as a touring musician for 5 years and what we're studying at school (sound design for example, among many other things) I think I could be able to contribute with stuff.
So, I have now asked if there are more people at school interested in doing this - my goal would be to create a small team of sound designers/composers/voice actors at university here. We have access to high quality recording studios and equipment and our combined skills and experience might prove a useful asset.
Here is something I made a while ago, without even knowing about Skywind back then. I sort of imagined a video game/movie in my head as I went along. It is far from finished, but I definitely feel that the idea is there.

What exactly needs sound design, composing, etc? Are there any specifics? (footsteps, swords, monsters etc...)

Omg all these screams are awful!
Care to elaborate? ;)
I Bulimia Nervosas
But the first is fine
That one is completely unrelated, obviously, haha. The "Soundtrack" is meant for this. :)
THe problem is that I like the first song. But when it ends the awful screams appear
Ok, well, let's keep this on topic.
Does what I wrote in my first post sound like a good idea? Any devs in here? :)
I think that song is more closer to Gothic then a weird Morrowind. The fans would not forgive us. Just my opinion
Maybe it will take a part in Skyblivion
Alright, as one of the music leads I need to bring up the fact that we don't really accept composers anymore. The music team has now over 20 of these, and more means even less consistency.
Another thing is that it's indeed a bit too gothic in feel. It would actually fit the Gothic series. Quality - wise it's great, but the style is way off. If you really want to contribute, I'd suggest you study the style of Jeremy Soule's Morrowind soundtrack, and try to compose something that'd stay true to the original feel ;)
As I mentioned in the first post, I did that song not even being aware of the Skywind project. It wasn't intended to be for anything specific, just an idea I wanted to get out of my head and to play around with the softwares I used to make it. I have a signed copy of the Skyrim soundtrack from Jeremy Soule, I know what it "should" sound like, haha... :)
In other news, we are currently about 10 people or so in this team that are interested in contributing with stuff for this project. And we are NOT focusing mainly on the music here, we're a team of very widespread people with various skills and ambitions ranging from foley, sound design, composing, voice acting etc.
As far as voice acting goes, you'll need to post individual(nothing preventing you from working together on the recordings) auditions in voice acting forum. Some time in December Langotriel and Smitehammer will look through the auditions and assign roles. If you want to know more, the voice acting section should have pretty much all the information you're looking for :) I can't really comment on the other areas. Hope to see some great contributions!
Noted! Thanks man. :)
I will try to get everyone a bit more organized and up to speed the next few days or so. And try to figure out a good working scheme for all of us involved. 10-12 people is good, but we need to spread out the skills to work as efficiently as possible.
Really hope we'll hear from more contributors/devs soon. We are pretty excited about doing this!
No devs or anybody in here? Where do we turn to in order to get further instructions about what exactly needs to be done? We're ready to get started.
Why don't you put a list of each person and what they are interested in doing or what skills they have? We've never taken an en masse group of volunteers, so the moderators probably aren't sure how to approach this.
Lethargica, just in case you didn't realize. Anyone with the label "Contributer" is a dev.
Also, here is the latest Skywind update video that has a rundown of what needs work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ql3FNCrYkGU&list=UUwMeA6uYyXr...
The sound effects, voice acting (VA), and soundtrack recording all have their established teams working on these aspects. I don't know if there is a place for a whole team of people to jump in as a group. It would be best if individual people listed what they were interested on working on. As Dragomir states, there's already a ton of composers for music. It would have to be really, really exceptional piece of music that fits the style to have it accepted as I believe they are just tweaking it at this point.
I dont know about sound effects but maybe send someone actively working on that area a PM to see if there's room to help. (EDIT: JPNeufeld is the lead)
In term of Voice Acting, we're getting ready to record sometime in December and have already received a ton of excellent auditions, however, if any member of your group believes they have an exceptional voice for a particular race/gender combo feel free to post in the auditions threads. Only the best auditions will be accepted due to the quality level we are aiming for, but it is good to hear you have excellent equipment. Best of Luck!
For music - if you manage to try and flawlessy replicate Jeremy Soule's style of Morrowind (not Skyrim) soundtrack, we can consider. Until then, we can't really tell if there's use for this music. Especially since majority of what we need is already composed.
Sound design - best reach out to JP Neufeld, he's the current lead of that department.

In that forum you have threads for auditions for each race. Read the first posts, get an idea of what each race should sound like, record audition (text to read is in the first post too), submit them, and Langotriel and Smitehammer will pick out what they need and assign characters. There is NO other way around it, because otherwise we'll get a huge mess. Impossible to assign characters without knowing what your voice is like.
Thank you, everyone!
Totally understandable that this might be something out of the ordinary, that so many people "sign up" at once. We will have a meeting next week and make a list of everyone involved and what each individual would like to do specifically. :)
Wow, I think it's great you've collected so many people to contribute to this project. You have done well kind sir, and I salute you.
The pleasure is all ours, I'd say. We want to learn, practice and the majority of us are big fans of the games. :)

I just want to trow in a idea or task one could consider doing, especially with a big team!
Don’t take this the wrong way, because I don’t want to Hijack this team for any other purposes then doing direct work for Skywind but if there are no free audio jobs available at this point in development of the main mod, one could consider book reading.
Morrowind / Skywind includes 635 books, and getting users to listen to them during gameplay or in there free time would be a very nice addition to the game.
I can upload the book reading text files if needed!

We will be meeting up today to make a list of everyone involved and what each member would like to do, specifically. I'll get back here once we're done with that.
And by all means, that book reading sounds like fun!
Thats a great idea Sjors! Now I totally want to get in on the book reading thing.
(An option to disable it would probably be a good idea.)
Foley, FOLEY. Dear god don't forget about the foley.
Oh, we won't forget about foley. :)
I could use some people for the voice acting sound quality team! (listening to all voice acting and making notes of any impurities and sending he notes to the voice actors so that I don't have to deal with hundreds of hours of audio alone). I already have a team but they were assembled 4 months ago and most are probably not up for it anymore.
I guess it would be a bit more practical if the people who wanna contribute make an account on this site and post their respective skills in the respective threads.
Here is a list of everybody involved, including e-mail adresses for everyone: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DzFZ7Dqkw1_zVn_TCEJYFC80...
I guess our general idea is to receive a sound-list with things that need to be done - we'll perform said tasks and send them back. This is how we've worked on a previous game project although we were a much smaller team than this. But we are of course open for any suggestions and we, in the team and here on the forums, should probably try to figure out which way would be the most efficient!
Anyone working with/for me is required to add me to skype and communicate through there. I can't have people all over the place.. I need people under me. if anyone is interested in doing sound quality checking for voice acting, PM me.
From that what I know we have background tavern music but, I don't see objections to have some additional music like in Skyrim, check this topic. For sure we had drums and lute, but maybe some old personal instruments could be add too (flute?). I'm not sure but all of them have ready animations.
Guess I'll bump this thread a bit.
We're still keen on helping out if it's needed. I was in a Skype chat with some "moderators" here but I felt that things were moving extremely slow and things just kind of never took off. Granted, we're also busy with school and all that, but it felt like things came to a complete halt.
Just wanted to let y'all know we're still here.
Not a moderator, so I can't give proper response.
Just wanted to say that I listened to the music you linked in the first post and it is fantastic. Its great quality and has a great atmosphere to it. The song sounded a little bit out-of-place with the rest of the tracks that have been made, but it sounds like you could do wonders on this project! Hope the mods see this soon!
Hi me again, I'd just like to point out your group would most likely get attention from the mods if you posted in the recruitment forum, people there tend to get some kind of notification within a few days.
https://tesrenewal.com/forums/recruitment
Good luck buddy!
Yes, making a new, actual post in recruitment may be the best.
With the pdf and the [SOUND] [VOICE ADDITION] tags and all. Take a quick on description and investigate how other users made it, so you will be noticed quicker certainly.
