Gates of Vivec city could be a bit bigger. But this is only concept and modeler will decide if he/she wants to do them wider and higher (this is biggest city on the island).

I like siltstrider pylon. We can use also some pylons placed just on roof of living houses.

> Gates of Vivec city could be a bit bigger
= not so critical with this small population of it.
= I think now more critical to make it more naturalistic (more shacks, beggars, population, beaches, markets, pilgrims, children, public services and so on).
= Even in magical world Vivec should'nt look like some waterpark in Disneyland.

Hello, guys.

Hello, guys.

I just want to say that you are incredible.

Vivec city is THE essence of Morrowind for me. It's the city where I would love to live in my alternate life. (hopefully some multi-verse version of me does ;D)

All in all, every part of Vvardenfell is important, but Vivec is iconic.
It would be a shame not to give it the attention it deserves.

And from what I see here, you put all the fan love you have into this, you almost make me tear up :D

Wish you good luck in everything. And will try to see what can I do myself for the project.

What if one of the cantons,

What if one of the cantons, probably St. Olms., has a plume of smoke coming out the top, essentially making it look like a mock red mountain. The lore of this can be that during holidays and special events the temple puts on shows making shapes from the smoke.

It would also be interesting to see one of the other cantons have plants along the walkways, a sort of hanging garden of Vivic.

Those last few with the large

Those last few with the large amount of vegetation / gardens are cool, but I'm getting an Aztec/Jungle kind of vibe that maybe it should ease back from, kinda like what lukkar is saying with only vegetation on the roofs.

Thinking back, I noticed the areas near the water and sewer portholes in MW could use some more detail... maybe some marine vegetation or roots coming up near and below the sewers. Might be overkill, but could look neat.

Also nice job in general Roman :)

How about rising the cantons up a bit and adding a green algae texture on their bottom? Just to indicate that there are tides.

Just been having thoughts on

Just been having thoughts on the Temple Canton, to add a bit more life and colour you could include designs similar to Tibetan Prayer flags, just a thought anyway, and they could designate temple facility, such as the shrines and the temples themselves.

I'll leave this here for

I'll leave this here for reference, this was an early development screenshot of Vivec before some engine changes, with open-air cantons more closely resembling Michael Kirkbride's concept (I think that's the Saint Delyn canton):

Also, that Imperial Templar is an interesting (although unrelated) reference, noting the moth on the chest and the symbols (Ancestor silk text?) on the helmet.

Really nice work on everything so far, although I do think that the curved bridges with the hanging banners of the original are too iconic to be replaced, and should be restored in the new Vivec:

And another prerelease screenshot:

About hanging gardens idea; I

About hanging gardens idea; I think it be great relief in Molag Mar. In the middle of grey wasteland region to see all green town Molag Mar that is cared by its inhabitants will be magical.
City located on the edge of Molag Amur in the lake. It is very quiet and mainly exist as resting point to pilgrims. So it seems obvious that citizens have a modest life and a lot of free time, so they recreate themselves and make fun with a lot of gardening!

Iceflame, don't worry about the curved bridges. The bridges and hanging banners of course will be added. Now I working about concept of Redoran Canton but later I will make some thing like your last screenshot.

The large green columns

The large green columns running up the front of the foreign quarter, those were also quite iconic in the original, and I think they should definitely be put on the sides of the pyramid cantons again -arena, redoran, telvanni

This including the arches they created under them, when they went over a pathway. I also think we should keep the old amount of bridges, and in the same locations, from the original layout, as the new lack of such bridges makes it too difficult to navigate the exteriors. Vivec's final esthetic in the original game- Pyramids, the green columns, the curves bridges and arches, and the way they curve into the water- was one of the most iconic features of morrowind, and to have that look come to compromise with the new features would be great. We musn't pave over the original, but build upon it, for it is not our place to simply mold it as we see fit, but pay respect, preserve, and cherish the original game, as we add to what it could be, and bring it to further potential, not an entirely different one. I also don't think the Hlaalu canton should be a different shape, as it makes it seem too personalized- to hlaalu, it would be entirely indoril-, and it stomps over the memory of the tall towering three-story buildings of the original. Now this isn't to say keep it-and the rest of the city purely identical, no, don't simplify my words to such extremes, I believe that it should hold more resemblance however to the old, and pay respects to the memory, and fact, that is held as Morrowind.

Loving the scarab carved in

Loving the scarab carved in the stone, and the red tapestry. A great motif for the Great House cantons would definitely be to have a bit of art pertaining to the houses in the Vivec architecture. In this case, the scarab for the Redoran. I don't know if a statue of a Redoran hero would be appropriate in this case, or if the city should be kept as pious/dedicated to the temple as possible. Either way this is neat; would love to get a better view of the rest of the canton though, especially if we're going by the open-ceiling idea ;)

While I certainly agree with the sentiment of this post, this part I'm not so keen on. If the final product for Vivec city looks more like the original than the concepts portrayed here, then my humble position is that Vivec requires some extra bridges. Seriously, just load up Morrowind and do a few Vivec centric quests, the cantons don't have enough connections to facilitate easy travel without major detours (the lack of a 2nd story Foreign>Hlaalu bridge always confused me).

As for the beautiful concepts here vs. the original shape, I'm somewhat ambivalent? The cross layout for Vivec always struck me as a bit odd considering the elves of TES tend to draw a lot on the far eastern cultures... however, tradition is tradition.

Finally, for the Hlaalu canton itself, I agree that it should match the other houses... or at least match the Telvanni canton that it pairs to. Cultural references aside, the cross motiff for Vivec always gave the city a sense of balance, and I feel that should be maintained... even if the Skywind version doesn't match the original 1:1.

Anyways, keep up the great work guys, it's always inspiring to come here and see how things are coming along. Now that I've said my piece, I'll go back to lurking.

UIhm, guys, the layout of the

Uhm, guys, the layout of the city didn't change at all - the main concept is a direct repaint of a screenshot, exactly for the purpose of keeping it in the same layout, just walls and docks added (and Ebonheart moved away). Vivec is not a straight up cross in vanilla Morrowind, it only appears so on the map because of how cells are arranged.

Not sure I understand? Between the layout pics I've seen and revisiting Vivec city in game today, the only thing in the way of calling the city an absolute cross is the slightly skewed placement of the foreign quarter. As for the concept image, it could just be the perspective, but it looks like the Telvanni and Arena cantons are pulled forward compared to the Hlaalu and Redoran ones respectively.

This is the image the concept

This is the image the concept was based on. It's not exactly vanilla Morrowind, but the placement of the cantons is kept the same (impossible to find pure vanilla screenshots of Vivec due to small view distance). Concept is an overpaint of that screenshot. As you can see cantons didn't move, and Telvanni only feels desolated due to lack of bridges - and that adds to their character.

All the cantons need bridges,

All the cantons need bridges, as the cantons were not built by the respective houses that inhabit them currently, the structures predate that. House character would come in the form of things like planters with mushrooms growing on them, and banners and such. The structures themselves need consistency.

Perhaps a crumbled bridge?

Perhaps a crumbled bridge? Maybe Telvanni is reluctant to have others enter the canton. The only way to enter could be levitation (or maybe the rest of Vivec destroyed their bridges because their flora might infest the rest of Vivec).

Just an idea

Hey Roman, I kind of agree

Hey Roman, I kind of agree with what Iceflame pointed out regarding the pyramids - they should have rounder, softer features as opposed to completely angular ones. The square corners and steep angles are more reminiscent of Imperial architecture than Vivec. Your work is absolutely fabulous, but taking this in consideration would really improve the feel of the city in my opinion.

Sorry but, I think this

Sorry but, I think this concept could be better Roman

1. My posters could be used only where imperials are in power (imperials cities, forts etc.) But proskooma could fit there.

2.Those two graffiti which u used are "special" which means that can be only in appointed places like Balmora and second one somewhere in Vivec (invisible dude quest). But this is detail and there are many different.

3. If this is main city gate. It would be nice to see more stalls. You know many people in one place, good place for present yourself.

4. It would be good to see some cultural influence on the gate (nord, imperial, telvanni, balmora, redoran) Maybe some mural or sth heavy depicted. It could be quite colorful too. Some story about Vivec greatness, city or races which populate city etc. Just remember that foreign quarter should be more colorful, diverse and less dunmer than other districts.

Anyway, good work.
