stijmunkey, can I please request that you put something else as the music for your videos? Something more like the original Morrowind soundtrack? Perhaps it is a difference of tastes, but I can't take the video seriously with that music in the background.
And, per eloth's request, I added entrances to Halls of Wisdom and Justice. Please let me know if you think the addition looks decent, and what you think would need changing.
Absolutely, I'll do my best to find some better music that I can use without getting in trouble with copyright issues, to be honest i don't really like the music either but it's free to use :p
Great work! I'm really loving the attention my favorite part of my favorite city is getting. :P
Fun fact: when one Googles "High Fane concept art", your models (and this thread) are at the top of the list. You get even more results from this thread if you add "Vivec" to the query!
What about putting a big standards with 2 flags atop of the towers? The dark elves are really fond of those sigils to show it's one of their clan's buildings.
So, based on the conclusion that the first shot is the favourite, some improvements done today.
Ghalitthegreat - you actually posted a very good source of inspiration, Gaudi was a master of using interesting, smooth shapes, I should take a look at his work to get some inspiration for the Palace of Vivec :)
And for the standards - Vivec city is, as far as I know, an exception to the clan rule - it does not beling to any of the great houses. (Is that correct?)
Looks awesome but maybe you should leave banners and statues to level designers? (if we have to modify the whole mesh for minor details it's not very practical).
Iniquity is right, I will model them separately. While I agree that adding banners is for level designers, they simply don't have any banner models for use ATM, so I see no harm in adding them in my model, texturing them, and then splitting them up to separate models.
As promised to eloth - a (late) update on the work done on High Fane - UV mapping. There is nothing really to see here yet, I am just getting the general UV map done and using the existing Vivec textures for reference. I thought UV mapping was a strength for me, apparently that is not the case, since it took me 3 hours just to complete the meager amount shown on the screenshot :|
Ravanna - what textures are we talking about? I am using the textures that eloth sent me about 6 days ago, I'm assuming they are up to date. They seem quite limited though and very dark, I would be happy to get any existing assets I can get.
Smerk - I think UV mapping in Blender is easier than ever since 2.6, with all the align/straighten and island/face/edge select tools available in the UV window. It is just that I have not UV mapped a serious scale model for 3 years, and my skills there need a lot of refreshing.
Progress update. I have tried really hard not to leave any seams visible, and failed to do so next to the vertical curve of the top balcony. So my question is - can I assume that a level designer will hide that flaw with a flag or banner of some sort, or should I redo the UVs of that surface completely? (because any modification I do to the UVs made so far will destroy the existing tiling)
nah, dont listen to him, this model is much better :P
I give you. . . . a useless video showing off all the pictures already on this forum!!!!

Progress after a long while.
Twisted, I saw that too when I was looking for references to my model. It's a strange feeling.

High Face belongs to the tribunal temple does it not? So the banners should be the temple banner.

I think jk will create it separately.

Of course if it's just to show us the final result no problem (they look great btw ).
How is this going? Haven't seen an update in a while, just wondering what's up.
So I guess this project has been dropped?
He had to go back to his home planet, but Eloth has his model and stuff.

welcome back!
did eloth show u any new vivec textures or do u already have them
ya man uving in blender can be a pain.
New Vivec textures? Damn, can't wait to see them!
