French Translation

Submitted by Yanis010 on

I recently discovered Morroblivion and I'm stunned by all the work done on this project. I would love to help but I've got no experience with the creation kit, so I thought about translating, because the project is nearly complete. I am french and I have a quite decent english level, so I think I could be useful. I need to know if someone is already working on this translation and, if yes, how I could help.

Did you just say, nearly complete?

That's what I read on the Morroblivion FAQ ^^

Current Status (version 062)

  • Morrowind: 100% of the main Morrowind game has been completed, and is fairly well debugged (details here). There is very little that gets in the way of a complete Morrowind experience.
  • Tribunal: Main quest is 99% complete (with the exception of some creature models) and playable. Sidequests are about 75% complete.
  • Bloodmoon: East Empire Company questline is complete. Main quest and various sidequests are currently being debugged.

As far as I know nobody is working on a french translation of Morroblivion. So I think you can go ahead. Oh and the Tribunal sidequests are 100% done as of the latest version.

Thank you for answering, I'm ready to begin. I will post my progress here.

Also, when I'm done with it, do I upload a new morrowind_ob.esm file with my translation or do I do it otherwise ?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Nope, you do it in the esp file, which is dependant on the Morrowind_ob.esm

Keep in mind that there are thousands of items, NPCs and even more lines of dialogue, so doing a complete translation isn't easy and certainly isn't quick.

Also, any translation file becomes outdated when new version of the master is released.

Thank you, that's what I'm gonna do.

Also, I knew that it would be a long-term project, especially if I'm alone, so if someone wants to help, please tell me.

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

you're not alone. :)

first, we could use some of this:

http://wiki.korben.info/outils_de_collaboration_et_de_traduction#traduction

having a collaborative doc could be great. (transifex like. http://tinytm.sourceforge.net/en/index.html  maybe?)

And i can help. :)

Parfait !

Pour l'instant on peut peut être se contenter d'un googledoc ou equivalent. A voir;

De toutes maniere la premiere étape est de sortir la totalité des texteset de classer tout ca bien.

edit: a rajouter dans les outils possible (a tester)

Bon je télécharge tout ca. Actuellement je travaille sur un autre mod, je pense avoir fini dans la journée et je m'attelerais à notre tâche. Au fait google translator toolkit à mon avis ne sert à rien étant donné qu'on ne peut pas y ouvrir d'esp ou esm.

Use this program: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29457/
1. Download Program+French DB;
2. Open program and press F3;
3. Than "Change actual database" and open BDD_Morrowind_EN-FR;
4. Close extra window;
5. Than File->Open ESP->Open morrowind_ob.esm;
6. Click on the line with the text;
6. Use F3 to find FR text.

Thanks it works perfectly, but, does it edit the esm or does it create a separate esp file ?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

It will create a new esm. I didnt find a way to create esp, mb i will find it later :(

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

ok I think its still fine since you can merge two esm it probably won't cause any problem

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Not separate esm, it will create full esm with new language ;)

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Oh. Isn't there a way to create a separate file (esp or esm) with only the translation ? Because if the new esm is the complete morrowind_ob in french, I will have to redo the work for every new version, and a separate file that contains only translation would be usable with every version AND also for Skywind, I think.

I know, it is bad i think, and u always need to create normal instaler, but i wrote to author of this utility about our question, just wait answer :)

Thanks, you rock

Oh. 31638 dialogues. That's a lot.

Found something weird in the creatures : "Lusitidrike"

No idea what it could be

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Some lines must automate translating. Is it right for u?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Yes it works fine for me

Brainslasher thanks I added an imaginry "i" thats why I didn't found it on the internet

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Lustidrike

We need to restore this :)

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

yes it's not me, the original morrowind_ob said "Lusitidrike" ^^

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Oh, and I have an idea if I can't make a translation esp with this tool. I only have to upload a xml translation file and tell the players to use esp/esm translation to load the xml file into their morrowind_ob.esm

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

And, a question, will my translation also be valid for Skywind ?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Yanis, 1. what u mean?
2. Partially :)

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

You said I couldnt make a separate esp with only translation, so I found another way. With the program you gave me, I can :

1. Save the plugin, that will edit morrowind_ob.esm

2. Save translation, that creates a xml file with the translation that I can load after loading the original plugin in the program.

So, instead of uploading a whole new morrowind_ob.esm with option 1, I will upload the xml file from option 2, and the players will manually load it into their morrowind_ob.esm.

I think it was better explained like that.

And, also, I found "roomate" in the esm, is this "roommate" ?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

How they will do it?

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Withe the program you gave me. You load the morrowind_ob.esm, then you load the xml file and you save the plugin, that is now translated.

I also found "Iron Longword" like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious ? ^^

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Yanis, bad way. Compilate of esm = 1-2 hours.

Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Oh. I see. Nevermind, we will find another way someday. I just saw the 1295 books, so we have got some time ahead [External image]

Also, I saw Lagryn Darys' Shack, and I think there is an error because I see nothing about Lagryn Darys on the internet

I think I found an easter egg

In the sentence "You need a Probe to disarm the trap", what is exactly a probe ?

I asked google translate, but I don't think I can disarm a trap with a survey.[External image]

EDIT : No need to answer, I found.

comment t'aider?

Il te faut Morroblivion (évident mais ça ne coûte rien de le préciser)

Télécharge ça (program only et base de données francaise) :

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/29457/

Ouvre ce programme, appuie sur F3, choisis "changer la base de données actuelle" et prends BDD_Morrowind_EN-FR. Va dans fichier < ouvrir fichier, et choisis morrowind_ob.esm, puis télécharge ça :

http://epervier666.free.fr/ESP_Translation/Skywind.zip

Clique sur "Charger traduction" (la disquette)et prends le morrowind_ob.xml que tu viens de télécharger. Commence à traduire les dialogues (catégorie INFO sur la gauche), je m'occupe pour l'instant du reste (quêtes, livres, scripts...).

Voilà
