Materials and their GAMEPLAY effects.

Submitted by Thermocrius on

For Skywind, we want to make all the different materials useful for their own properties. This means we don't just want the higher level armor to be "just better". We want them to all the useful for their own purpose.

Iron:

Breaks easier than other metals, but is really easy to fix.

Steel:

Very tough, but a bit harder to fix

Silver:

Easy to break, hard to fix but deals extra damage to magical creatures.

Dwemer:

(NEED SUGGESTIONS)

Glass:

Sharper and lighter than most rare metals, but incredibly hard to repair and VERY brittle.

Ebony:

As sharp as glass, tougher, hard to repair and very heavy

Daedric:

Indestructible, sharpest of them all, and very VERY heavy

Netch leather:

Soft, comfortable and easy to repair.

Boiled Netch Leather:

Very tough but harder to repair using resins.

Bonemold:

Protects more than Boiled Netch, but easier breaks easier. Easy to fix using resins and bonemeal.

Dreugh:

Tough, but brittle. When broken might as well throw it away. No fixing this set except finding a new suit.

Dragonscale:

Made from small dragonlings found in Daggerfall. Extra resistance to fire.

Orichalcum:

Tougher than steel, not as tough as dwemer, but lighter.

Chitin:

Light, cheap and durable, but doesn't offer too much protection.

SUGGESTIONS ARE NEEDED. POST YOURS BELOW.

I like this idea a lot. I think there should also be an enchantment that degrades the enchantment of your enemy's armor or weapon significantly. However if you kill your enemy, the armor or weapon's enchantment damage should only have effect on the person your using it on. just so when you get their armor or weapons, you don't end up getting something shitty.

Maybe even have armor enchants that stop degradation all by themselves. So when enchanting armor you have the choice to negate item deterioration along with the other enchants.

I also like the idea of deterioration spells not effecting item status when looted. Although not as realistic it would make those spells much more viable then in Oblivion and Morrowind where you would only use it if you weren't interested in looting any of the equipped items.

I remember there was a spell in Oblivion that destroyed enemie's weapons and armour. I'd be all for spells that prevent equipment from degrading, also as a constant effect enchantments. Spells that fix equipment would be a great alternative too, though some downside to them should be considered (as in the game it's smiths who fix gear, not mages).

I agree with everything except armor fixing spells. Coming from someone who often plays Mage, being able to repair armor for free only using mana for a spell would be unfair and could negate most if not all of the smithing skill. I would rather just have spells that reduce armor damage or enchants that remove it depending on how many item slots are filled.

Heh, I did say it would need some downside first ;) Maybe have it require a soul? Be it a perk of enchanting that allows you to repair gear using souls.

That would be strange idea - to use magic for repair. It would be better to use magic for craft (for example - melt and form liquidified wood), but not it this game :{

I think it only can be in form of enchantment that makes item magically durable/regenerating/indestructible

Repairing gear with souls? Looks like somebody played Dark Souls...

Keep it simple as we can. Maybe it will be very mana expensive or instead mana it can take health or both. That you have to have some level to do it.

Remember how open morrowind was to doing fun game breaking things like creating amulets that gave you infinate health, or let you jump across vvardenfell?

Little to no restrictions are fun, but it should be a tedious climb to get there, for only the most determined of players. Sure, you can wear the mighty indestructible DIY god amour, but its going to take enchanting level 100 and the soul of dagoth ur (or some other high level character)
