Graphics isn't the only thing

Graphics isn't the only thing that matters, and in nearly all other aspects Skyrim is inferior compared to previous games.
I'm sticking with Morroblivion. :p

Sorry to disagree with you

Sorry to disagree with you Qwerty because I love your work, but I don't think the Skyrim engine is inferior.  I don't know as well from the standpoint of a modder, but from the point of a gamer with several hundred hours in both the Oblivion and Skyrim engines, there is virtually nothing the Oblivion engine does better.  In fact the only thing I find inferior about Skyrim  (at least that I could think of in the last few minutes), is the merging of the curaiss and greaves.  However in the Skyrim engine it is easily possible to add that separation back (unlike in the Oblivion engine), as well as include the separations present in Morrowind, so not really so inferior in that sense either.  I really think you should give Skyrim a second shot and play through it again.  Best 50 bucks I ever spent. :)

Oblivion will die
Even though the Oblivion Game and Engine is light years ahead of Morrowind, Most players of both have much preferred Morrowind, have stuck up for it at Any opportunity, and have lamented it's loss. Oblivion just doesn't have that same type of following. People play Oblivion because the engine itself is far superior, and Modders have worked with Oblivion instead of Morrowind because it let them do things that Morrowind just didn't... and the Graphics are far superior. Now Skyrim is and will be the game of Standard, and Oblivion does not have the same fanatical fan base that Morrowind had going for it. There are Very few players that will stick up for Oblivion over Morrowind, or ever say that Oblivion is the better game, or ever lament the passing of Oblivion when it dies. People will mod for Skyrim because the Graphics are so superior, and there is no going back. Morroblivion is NOT "Complete." Far from it, and I am sorry that I got so restless that I had to move on. I have no idea when I will get back to Morroblivion; I can only hope that my interest in Oblivion holds on for that long, and that my disgust at crashing three or four times a night doesn't finally overtake me...

Cut down role-playing system,

Cut down role-playing system, crippled magic, terrible interface - to name just a few Skyrim's disadvantages. It may be the most popular ES game for now, but it's IMO not the best.

Just my view is that while

Just my view is that while the engine Skyrim is uses is very nice and graphically pretty, I feel the rest of the game is a total let down and I much prefer the current Oblivion/Morroblivion method of playing. Just a few disappointments off the top of my head.

The magic/combat...Having to unequip something and equip a spell just to cast magic... cannot use a weapon underwater.

Simplified level up (select one of 3 stats only)

Creating the most powerful weapon, armour and items yourself... Cannot find any point exploring as nothing is going to drop that is better than you can just make...

Weapons/ armour not getting damaged in use.

UI in general and lack of any real key configurations options.

Skill/perk system uninteresting and no real range of options

Vanilla Oblivion + SI (on an old basic pc) I spent many hours enjoying exploring every bit I could. Morroblivion (on decent pc) I'm spending many hours enjoying exploring everywhere, including places I'd been before... Skyrim I played for a while (lvl mid 30's - 40's) Sort of ok, not as interesting, not as much live a life as you wish, then got bored as it just became a basic task of clear the dungeon, sell everything as nothing is better than self made, repeat.

If Skywind uses the graphics engine and manages to convert the combat, magic, etc, etc back to current style then I will be playing many happy hours, but if it stays the same as Skyrim is now, then much as I will really miss seeing morroblivon with the the updated graphics... no matter how pretty, the dull gameplay will stop me bothering to play it.

Just reinstalled Skyrim the other week to see how it runs with all the mods.... still no real interest, deleted it and back to Morroblivion with relief.

It would be a real shame if the rest of the morrowind world does not get finished and included in morroblivion, but I do understand that these things happen

I give up on you narrow

I give up on you narrow minded people.  You see only the bad and none of the good.  What if you had done that when Oblivion came out?  What no levitation?  The Armor is merged?  Why the heck did you get rid of some of my skills?  NO CROSSBOWS OR THROWING WEAPONS!!! This looks like a generic medieval RPG!  This game is dumb, I'm going to play Morrowind for the rest of my life and not even give some project called Morroblivion a chance, because Oblivion ruined so many things.

Oh, and by the way something has been invented called SkyUI, and it is far better and more like Morrowind than any of the Oblivion UI mods.  Also try looking up Morrowloot (and mods in general).  You may find that very few of your concerns are valid.  Also, you are mistakenly using Skyrim and the Skyrim engine interchangeably, they are VERY different things.

Edit: Fixed the spelling of "medieval"

People DID say all of that when Oblivion came out.  I remember well.  All those same things.  Basically, get a list of the differences between MW and OB, or OB and SK, and people have complained (or defended) every single one.

People just have different preferences for the style of game they like to play, and the ES games have changed over the years.  They are different experiences, each of which appeals to some people more than others.

Making each game more of a "console-style action-RPG" (skyrim) and less of a "hardcore RPG" (morrowind) was a business decision.

Morrowind is a hardcore RPG.  No fast travel.  No linear plot lines.  No handholding, no leveled loot or creatures.  Tons of inventory management.  Complex leveling system.  No quest markers.  Prior to Tribunal, the journal was a *journal* only.  You couldn't search it, you couldn't filter by the quest, you could just flip back in pages and read.  Now that's a hardcore RPG.

However, hardcore RPGs don't appeal to the masses, especially since console gaming is where the masses have moved in the past ten years.  Consequently, hardcore RPGs don't sell well these days.  So if you want to stay in business, you've got to make games that sell.  That means casual-gamer-friendly, console-style games.  Easy, regular rewards and  accomplishments, quick-paced, fast travel, quick exits at the end of every dungeon, and a focus on simplification and a easy learning curve.

It's not right or wrong, it just is what it is.  And that's what mods are for.

SkyUI does completely fix the UI problems on the PC version.  Many other mods also address issues that Jaknet mentioned.

However, that doesn't negate preferences for a specific type of game and style of play.  Further, some things have not been, and may never be, moddable in each of the games.

Calling someone "narrow minded" for having a personal preference is akin to calling someone a racist xenophobe because they married someone from their same cultural background, or calling someone an elitist snob because they drive a new car and play lots of golf.   If you saw me at the grocery store buying an Abba-Zabba while you were buying a Twix bar, would you call me narrow minded for not buying the Twix like you?  What about when I told you I've tried both and prefer the Abba-Zabba?

Be nice to people, please...

I played morrowind, and was

I played morrowind, and was too young to get it. I played Oblivion, and my eyes were opened to modding. Oblivion made me revisit Morrowind (And, I may add, ONLY because of you guys and Morroblivion). Playing Morroblivion made me go back and play the origional (well, GOTY) Morrowind, for real. But Oblivion will always be that game I remember with golden glasses: Those where the days.

I think Morrowind was more magical, and I do feel the weaknesses of Skyrim- but it's where the world's going, and as a modder wannabe,  where I'm following. (You can't learn on a 10 year old game-you'd have to relearn it all anyhow)

Each game has it's strengths:

The magic mystery of Morrowind

The elation and beauty of Oblivion - seeing npcs that lived a real life

And Skyrim, which in my mind upgraded the major flaws of Oblivion: Dungeons that weren't carbin copies, hand crafted land, and bearable combat. Not to mention what seems to be a much more flexible / extensive modability.

Each becomes more playable, but loses more of that magic... OR, maybe we're just getting older...

All that being said, I hunger for Tribunal and Bloodmoon to be finished for either game. I never did them on Morrowind (I'm too much a fan of *GASP* quest markers). I would love to try them eventually...

Hi everyone - It looks like

Hi everyone -

It looks like it's been awhile since the last post here, and it sounds like the project's been abandoned (*gasp*) but I'm posting with the hopes that I'm wrong, and that there's some  who still want to work on morroblivion, like I do.

I read the reasons for switching to using Skyrim's engine, etc. and completely understand, and would love to help on that version as well. But I agree with some posts here which see real potential in BOTH versions - skywind and morroblivion.

I read through the list of what needs to be worked on, and I know how to do the work listed for the following:

NPC Merchants
Cobwebs in Tombs
Tribunal Main Quest Line
East Empire Quest Line

I guess anyone who is working on these can pm or email me and let me know where you're at with the work and what needs done.

I don't know how much info you need about me, but I have made morrowind and skyrim mods that involved doing the same work you mentioned needing for these items.  I've been modding TES for a few years and have the usual programs (if you need the details, pm or email me and I'll fill you in.) I do have programs for modeling and texturing too if needed.

I have already made a few small mods to morroblivion (not related to any of the items listed here) that I'd like to post to the site, if I may. Let me know if its cool, and where to post these.

Have a good one!

Would that be cool with everyone or is there someone I should connect with that is working on these already?

Quick question for you guys:

Quick question for you guys: For Morroblivion are we using any of the Bethesda Morrowind addons, for example the Master Index addon, etc. (there are approx. 6 great ones) or are we just using vanilla Morrowind updated with BM, Tri, and patches?

Thanks again!

Yet another question I was

Yet another question

I was wondering is there a way we could combine the morroblivion-v60-installer.exe file with the morroblivion-v60-complete.7z files? Could we add the files in the 7z to the exe file for easier install?

Just curious - it would be really sweet if we could :)

As far as I know nobody is

As far as I know nobody is currently working on the Tribunal questline so I'd say go for it. Any help is appreciated. For the official mods look here. I'm pretty sure there's a reason to have the installer and assets seperately, one of them being making it easier to update and not having to upload all the 3GB every time a new version is released.

Sweet! Okay great, thanx

Sweet! Okay great, thanx guys.

I'll forgo the museum and keep y'all updated here with progress on the ai for tribunal and if I try to do other parts of tribunal, I'll touch base here.

Would this be the only thread contrib. post what they're working on? (Just making sure so I can know if someone else wants to help with Tri.)

I tried installing v60 last night and am having a bit of a problem - seems to be on oblivion's side not morrowind's. For some reason, it just keeps crashing the game.

I install the original oblivion vanilla game, then the official patches for oblivion and SI both, then I install the unofficial patch for oblivion, then I start the morroblivion install (doing the v60 installer first then the v60 complete and adding Ely's OBSE Silent Voice.)

After that I launch morroblivion using either the oblivion launcher or the obse launcher, and in both cases it's crashed several times - immediately.

I ran v59 just fine this way, but is there something I'm doing wrong with the install? I'm not sure.. If anyone can help with suggestions I'd appreciate it. :)

I'll check back tomorrow. Have a good one everyone!

I had a similar issue, v59

I had a similar issue, v59 worked fine, when i installed v60 very few of the actor's were showing, few script's were working(because of no actor's). Reinstalling it fixed the issue for me so give that a try. If that doesn't work then re download then reinstall. Your download manager/browser might not have downloaded everything and something is corrupt.

Thanks everyone for your

Thanks everyone for your help! :)

Sorry it's been a couple wks since I posted to this site - I was in the hospital for 3 wks (yuck). But I'm home now and back to working, so just dropping in to keep my work updated.

I did get the new v60 working okay after a few different installs.
What ended up working was keeping v59 files and just installing v60 on top of that. (Originally I had started with a vanilla version before installing v60). So everything seems to be working fine now. If I wasn't supposed to do it this way, please let me know. :)

I am still working on the AI for Tribunal expansion. I will post files as soon as I have at least a whole section of Mournhold AI taken care of or if a problem arises - so far everything is smooth sailing though. If you need to see files sooner or anything, just let me know. :)

Have a good one everyone!

If I wasn't supposed to do it this way, please let me know.

If you use resources from v059 with v060 master, you're going to have missing meshes.

For anybody wishing to help, I have identified some things that need attention:

NPC AI - Discussion Thread
This is a very large project, way too large for one person to do. So, coordination needs to be continuous so that none of the AI tromples over itself. Visit the discussion thread linked above for more details.

Bloodmoon Creatures - Discussion Thread
Bloodmoon creatures need to be re-rigged or have working Havok collision added to skeletons.

Collision for static objects - Discussion
This is needed to increase performance.

Clutter - Discussion
Replacing the various clutter models.

Can we get this list and all links updated with all that is still currently needed to be worked on? What is first priority?

Actually, I think the last

Actually, I think the last time the original post was updated was back back during v60 and probably even before that.  This thread is at least 6 years out of date.  Instead of trying to revive and update it, it might be easier to lock this for historical purposes and create a new one.  The first priority of the new thread would be to actually assess what's still missing in Morroblivion.  To do that, we need the help of all the Morrowind and Morroblivion players (especially the 100% completionists) to play the current state of the game and tell us what's missing.

Awesome.  I gladly stand corrected.

Regarding NPC Radiant AI: I suggest people avoid assigning eating/sleeping packages unless they absolutely know what they are doing.  (1) Eating packages requires a food source and some NPCs will steal food and end up getting killed unless care is taken.  (2) Sleeping requires a bed and most NPCs wander around naked or without armor when one isn't available in their current cell (check out the guards in Ald'Ruhn or Pelagiad at night).

Regarding collision: the python scripts in the last beta versions of ModExporter do something similar in addition to decimation functions.  Right now, this is in the context of converting Morrowind meshes to Oblivion, but it can easily be applied to iterating through all Morroblivion meshes.  I've been meaning to re-use these scripts as a basis for an customizable and automated VWD mesh generator similar to what MGE-XE does (generating VWD meshes for all statics above a certain size).

Regarding the AI like ponyrider said,  " I suggest people avoid assigning eating/sleeping packages unless they absolutely know what they are doing. "

I'm experienced enough with AI Packages to be able to fix the current AI, I've done AI for Skyrim and Oblivion and have a good understanding. Since I'm tinkering with Balmora, I'll do a seperate plugin with Improved AI Packages for Balmora exclusively then eventually continue to other Cities.

Are we Basically the Morroblivion Team now?

Also all updates I do with Morroblivion are Stricly Friendly to the Original Game besides adding the well needed Flora, Crates and Rocks.
