Supporting Plugins

Installation

The Morroblivion v68 installer automatically detects legal Morrowind and Oblivion installations before deploying the Morroblivion files. Install xOBSE separately, along with any OBSE / xOBSE plugins required by the Morroblivion options you enable.

As of Morroblivion version 68, the installer can automatically detect your installed Morrowind and Oblivion directories. When prompted for the Morroblivion installation directory, you may select your Oblivion directory or choose a different managed-mod directory if your setup requires one.

Please note that the official Installation Instructions topic and the PCGamingGoodies Video Installation are outdated for v68 and newer. They are still useful legacy references for load order, compatibility, and additional setup details not fully covered by the current installer.

Compatibility

Morroblivion Compatibility Patches

Morroblivion is located in a separate worldspace. It is generally compatible with mods that modify Oblivion's worldspace, including OOO, MMM, FCOM, Unique Landscapes, Better Cities, and similar Oblivion-focused mods, but those mods do not directly modify the Morroblivion worldspace.

Morroblivion is compatible with, and affected by, mods that modify Oblivion gameplay mechanics, including combat, magic, stealth, leveling, UI, and related systems.

The latest version is not compatible with most Morroblivion mods created before 2014, nor with original ESP Converter-based mods, unless the mod page specifically states that the mod has been updated or tested for the current release.

Potential incompatibility: Any mod that uses an older version of Morrowind_ob.esm as its master may be incompatible with the current release.

Starting the Game / World Transport

Alternate Start

Starting a new game with Morrowind_ob.esm active works as an alternate start. Instead of beginning in the Imperial City Prison, the game begins in the hold of the prison ship in Seyda Neen. As a result, the Oblivion Main Quest does not start automatically. A World Transport option can be used to start the Oblivion Main Quest.

World Transport

Being updated. The Oblivion Main Quest starts through a corpse outside the Imperial Prison Sewers.

Stability and Performance

If you experience seemingly random crashes, especially in wilderness areas, the cause is commonly related to cell-buffer overrun rather than a problem with a specific cell. Oblivion was not designed to load a project on the scale of Morrowind and all its denizens, but the following steps can reduce crashes.

  1. If you have 4 GB or more of RAM and are running a 64-bit version of Windows, apply the 4GB Patch to Oblivion.exe. This allows the 32-bit executable to use up to 4 GB of virtual memory instead of the usual 2 GB limit.
  2. Decrease graphical settings or install FastLOD with your preferred add-on.
  3. Install the recommended OBSE / xOBSE stability and performance plugins listed above.

Load Order and File Details

Morrowind_ob.esm

Main data file for Morroblivion. It contains the core landmass, dialogue, quests, and related records.

This file is required for Morroblivion to function.

Load order: Load directly after Oblivion.esm unless you are using EngineBugFixes. Even with EngineBugFixes, keeping this legacy order is still a safe baseline.

Morrowind_ob.esp

Loads the Morroblivion BSA archives and helps resolve possible conflicts with other mods.

This file is required for Morroblivion to function.

Load order: Load after any mod that changes vanilla idle animations, such as Personality Idles.

Note: This file contains one intentional ITM record. Do not clean it with xEdit.

Morrowind_ob - UCWUS.esp

Restores functionality for enchanted items with the "Cast When Used" enchantment.

This file is recommended for the full Morroblivion experience.

Load order: Load after Morrowind_ob.esp, with the other Morroblivion plugins. If you use Morroblivion clothing replacers with this plugin, create a Bashed Patch.

Morrowind_ob - Conversation.esp

Adds original Morrowind voiced lines to NPCs. Recommended for a more nostalgic Morrowind experience.

Load order: Load after Morrowind_ob.esp, with the other Morroblivion plugins.

Morrowind_ob - MorroblivionTreeReplacer.esp

Replaces default Morrowind trees with Oblivion-style trees.

Load order: Load after Morrowind_ob.esp, with the other Morroblivion plugins.

Any Morroblivion Map Replacers

Any plugin or replacer that alters the Morrowind map.

Load order: Load after all other Morroblivion mods.

Optional Add-ons / Resources

This list collects optional mods that have been used with recent Morroblivion releases and add meaningful experiences. Check each mod page for version-specific requirements. More mods are available in the [HUB] Mods for Morroblivion topic.

This thread includes discussion of current and historical releases.

Thanks! for all the updates to the master DaveB,morroblivion would not be what it is today if you had not kept it alive.

EnvyDeveloper,Thanks for updating the addon quests, and imo,if you can get them finished an esp [mod] could do it,but you would need the installer from Dave to be able to merge then install it with the master.?

Yeah, the installer is the only problem - otherwise I will make a seperate add on with Morroblivion for the last remaining quests.

This is probably my last release because development on this project has slowed to a crawl in favor of Skyrim, and people have simply stopped sending me things. My browser is no longer really compatible with this site, so it looks less than great and acts like it as well, so I am not going to go trolling or searching through the forums for things to include. I can't even really talk about my getting back into this project for real, because at my present rate that will be something like 3-5 years, and Nobody is going to wait that long or even remember me by then... If somebody want to take over for me that's fine. However, the experience of assembling this master file has come from already having made every possible mistake, so if people send me things I will certainly continue my support. Thank you to Everyone that has contributed to this project! I used Bonewalkers as a placeholder for the Draguar because I could not get Draguar to work; when I tested them in-game all they did was walk forward in a looping animation trap. They totally ignored me. I should have attacked one to see what it would do, but kind of feared a crash.

I will still continue to send you stuff, Dave B. :)

I plan to debug everything that's got to do with Solstheim and Mournhold, albeit slowly. The draugr have very low aggression and qwerty said that they have their attacking animations intact. Progress on Morroblivion is slower than before but it will not die. :)

I'm still releasing voice overs for morroblivion it's a separate esp so no problem with merging but as far as I'm concerned the project is still alive even if it's not too active, i played it for the first time a few months ago and it was simply amazing :)

Thanks to everyone that is continuing to work on this project. I really appreciate your work. :) And don't worry, people still play Morroblivion and are eager for updates.

Thanks Dave. You've done a lot for the project and we all appreciate your hard work over the years. We all owe you a debt of gratitude for stepping up to the task. Sorry about the website issues. For the security of your computer, and your own enjoyment of the the modern internet in general, you should really upgrade your browser though. ;-)

Hi... Sorry to act the newb, but I can't quite remember how things are done anymore.

While working on Azura's quest for Skywind, I found a logic error in Morroblivion that would allow the player to get Azura's Star even if they failed the quest. I (think I) fixed it, but I don't have a proper Morroblivion setup to make sure it works. So I have two questions:

1) Would someone be willing to test if the bug does actually exist? (In case I misinterpreted the script. Do this by accepting the quest at the Shrine of Azura, kill Staada, take Sheogorath's Signet Ring, enter the hut and talk to Rayna Drolan, then return to the statue. If you get Azura's Star, then the quest is broken.)

2) Where am I supposed to upload bug fixes, again? =P

It is correct talked to show Rayna shows in Pic

Glad that worked out.

Thank you for confirming! :)

No, I wouldn't imagine the issue would carry over if you're adding voiced Daedric Lords. Ah well, maybe my next random fix will be relevant. =P

like Mooncat, when working on Skywind, I sometimes see incorrect scripts in morroblivion (I mean as far as I can tell). Are you interested to get these tracked ?

Yes, definetly. Are you using the latest Morroblivion master or the one Skywind was converted from?

I'm usually working off the latest master (I might have the one just before actually - I need to check) for a first pass (rough) and then I go back to morrowind itself (refinement). I found a number of stuff already that I didn't track but I'll try to to track them for you from now on.

Thanks, that would be really useful.

I'm pretty new to Morrobivion (just started playing a few weeks ago) and I have a question.

I downloaded the Morrowind ob.esm Version v058 Master File Installer, read the readme file, and installed it via the installer.

Then I downloaded the v058 Resource folder. This is where I hit a snag...What do I do with this file? It doesn't come with any instructions that I can see. Sorry to sound like an idiot but any help offered would be really appreciated.

oh, by the way, I already have been playing using v057 with no problem, just need to know how to update to v058.

Just cut and Paste in to Oblivion\Data   Directory when asked to Overwrite say YES to All

Nice to see good progress is still being made very nice update! P. S. I still update morroblivions voice acting every so often over on the Skywind/morroblivion voice acting thread
Karma: 0 (0 votes)

Roxon 55, thanks for responding. I did what you instructed but have another problem. Each time I try to paste it pops up a message saying, "There is already a file with the same name as the folder name you specified. Specify a different name. Morrowind_ob.esm"

Sorry to bother you again but what should I do about this? It gives me no option to overwrite the file it just says, "Try again, skip, cancel"

Thanks in advance.

Where do you have your Oblivion installed

My entire Bethesda folder is installed directly onto my OS (C:) drive. It is it's own file. I just click on the C drive and the Bethesda folder can be accessed.

From what I've read it wasn't supposed to be in the programs folder so I just put it right outside. Its worked so far...

Is the Bethesda folder supposed to be somewhere else?

How did you install Morroblivion in the first place?

I used the Wyre Bash mod to install morroblivion.

You can install the resource update with Wrye Bash as well, just make sure it is loaded after v057 archive.

Thanks everyone for all your help! I used Wyre Bash to install the resources and it worked. I played around in the game for a few minutes just to see if it worked and everything looks great. Just one more question, though. How exactly do you determine the load order? Game plays fine so it must be in the correct order but I'm curious how to tell just incase I use some other mods later.

Load order is set on 'Mods' tab in Wrye Bash. Morrowind_ob.esm should always be second, after Oblivion.esm.

Wow, amazing update!  I need to get on it and do a full update of the complete installation file.  Awesome stuff!

Anyone have an idea of what's needed to upgrade from V57?

(a list of filenames would help) .. I don't intend to offend, but this install gets more convoluted with each new master ...

Actually, it never really changes. All you need is the newest support file and the newest master, both of which are linked in Qwerty's post.

Update instructions:
1.) Install the new v058 master
2.) Install the Resource update

Really, how is that convoluted?
