Morroblivion Help Information

Submitted by Dave B on

Lets Communicate!
If you are going to work on something, say exactly what you intend to do!

For anybody wishing to help, I have identified some things that need attention:

NPC AI - Discussion Thread
The scale of Morrowind is vastly large compared to Oblivion, way too large for one person to accomplish. So coordination needs to be continuous, When creating AI Packages for any of Morrowind's NPC. Visit the discussion thread linked above for more details.

Bloodmoon Creatures - Discussion Thread
Bloodmoon creatures need to be re-rigged or have working Havok collision added to skeletons.

Collision for static objects - Discussion
This is needed to increase performance.

Clutter - Discussion
Replacing the various clutter models.

Quests - Discussion
Verify integrity of quest dialogue, ie adding back NPC's using player names and grammar corrections. Check if ALL dialogue lines are included and being used respectfully.

Universal-Cast when used "UCWUS" - Discussion
Add the correct enchantments to various armor and/or clutter. Currently UCWUS items display incorrect or missing enchantments.

You Can-Not continue with the same mod, because once it has been integrated into the master it will TOTALLY conflict! So, you need to wait until v027 is released this weekend, then start a new mod using v027 as the Master. Please don't try to start a new mod using a different Master; you need to wait for v027. The pace of change with this project is incredible; skip one master and you are already conflicting! For instance, I have already fixed some of the things it looks like you addressed. For this reason, if you try to "fix" stray things you find along the way please say something about it. Please check your Inbox; I sent you a PM over an hour ago.

henshu, thanks for adding AI!

You might have noticed this, but you will probably have to make tweaks to bed and chair markers so that NPCs can actually use them (sit in chairs, sit down, get up, lie down in beds, get up etc.).  Furniture markers are kind of a pain, lol...

Thanks also for sticking to the original intent of morrowind and adding the rooms in the basements.  We try to stick to the original game as much as possible, so that people can 'mod' the vanilla game later with un-merged ESP files (such as my CAT mod).

I was surprised to find that the top bunks of bunk beds were actually functional. I don't think I've ever seen anyone successfully climb into one, but they sleep up there all the time. I may need to make a special 'climbing to the top bunk' animation...

I have been waiting for Eloth's Visual Upgrade to be released so that I could update this. His grass is Beautiful! It is also more plentiful! Now, more than ever we need to trim the grass! Grass trimming needs to be done with his Grass Replacer mod active.

Here's another buncc of rentable beds!

The inns are:

- Halfway Tavern in Pelagiad

- Andus Tradehouse in Maar Gaan

- Shenk's Shenk in Caldera - I fiddled little with AI and ownership so Shenk uses his own room on the third floor to sleep. There was actually already a little rentscript in place, but It was ver ybasic and I replaced it.
Sidenote: Those ceiling-candelabras are the buggiest things I ever seen. Even if they hang high they block movement under them.

- Ald skar Inn in Ald Ruhn - There was a finished script in place, but no dialogue, so i finished the work.

- Gateway inn in Sadrith Mora

- Faras hole in Sadrith Mora

- Six Fishes in Ebonhart

I think I will have all the rest in the next esp, and I think I will make a script for "the end of the world" in Dagon fel. There are available beds and all, but in original morrowind you couldn't rent anything, which is pretty stupid and most probably a bug.

@Henshu, are you working on any AI for the moment? I'm feeling confident enough to start working on that too, at least giving people some sleep and eat schedules.

I am working on Ald'ruhn right now [I saw the script on that bed and left it available, so we shouldn't have any conflicts]
I'm almost finished with this city, and I know that Didact has been working on some of the coastal towns so I would check with him before starting on anything there.
If you just want stick to basics we could always revisit the areas later to create more diverse schedules. I find that planning beforehand is helpful, and the uesp is a great resource for this. If, for instance, you wanted to tackle the city of Sadrith Mora, you could visit the main page for that city and find the map at the bottom of the page to help you visualize where people live in relation to other structures. They also have a fairly detailed list of all people within each city. I've found that copying that spreadsheet into one of my own makes it very easy for me to keep track of the citizens and make my own organized notes about them.

I wouldn't call myself an expert but I have learned a lot since I started, so if you run into something confusing or have an idea but aren't sure how to impliment it, don't hesitate to send me a message. [I am overly proud of little things I've figured out, such as how to make the people in Caldera Mine actually hit the deposits with their picks =p]

Thank you both. I will be making another release this weekend, if nothing else just to fix Dagoth Ur because that's a pretty serious bug. But, I have also been debuggin in my way, and now it looks like I've already got enough material already anyway. So, Please send me anything for inclusion by Friday evening April 15.

I'm afraid there's something wrong with the bug fixes I prepared that's causing me to crash.  Based on the .esp details, I'm guessing I might have made the mod dirty somehow, but I don't know enough about cleaning nor have I installed the tools to fix it.  None of my bug fixes are quite critical this time around, though some of them smooth over some of our rougher edges.  If it would be useful to you, I'll upload them; otherwise, I'm afraid I won't have time to recreate my fixes. :(

My Lucien Lachance and Intervention fixes should still be good, at least.

I have gotten some experience with cleaning mods over time :) I would hate to see anything you've done lost!

I was bored, so I finished the three Vivec Inns too!

I do have a question though. After sending in a bugreport about some missing topics, well, I kind of miss the Morrowind topics that every npc had, like background, morrowind lore, Lore topics about everything from Alit to Zainab. Some npcs have this, but a lot of them doesn't have any at all. Is this somethin that you have to edit every single npc to have? I guess I could get on some tutorials about dialogue....

Dialogue in Oblivion is done through quests. Each applicable quest has a set of topics and responses that are available to any NPCS that fit the assigned set of conditions.
It looks like all of these topics that you are referring to should be part of "MorroDefaultQuest".

If any line of dialog references any stage of any quest, or referenced some types of variables, they did not convert. This is why it was so laborious to reconstructi all the quests, because all the relavent dialog was missing. Thank you again to the Queen of the Ashlands who did most of this reconstruction work! So if, for example, the "Background" topic requres certain conditions to be met before it appears, then the lines that referenced quests did not convert and is not currently in the game--but the rest that do not reference quests did convert. These would all need to be reconstructed, line by line as we did for all the quests.

Here's the noLore fixes. I've cleaned all the quest topics, and all  "Latest Rumour" topics, and started on letter A. There's a lot left....

My intervention mod seems to make Divine Intervention take you to Solstheim if you're up northeast, like in Sheogorad.  (Too far west and you'll probably end up at Wolverine Hall, instead).  If that fails, you could always swim. :P

Also, here are my fixes for 028.  Something in this mod is causing instability in my game; I suspect it's a dirty dialogue reference of some sort, but if you can't determine for sure what might be causing it, none of my fixes are quite critical enough to warrant merging it into the .esm and making Morroblivion as a whole less stable.  I started bugging the Morag Tong, but I discovered that too many of the quests are not fully implemented (as in, whole dialogues actually missing), and I don't have enough experience with the Morrowind CS to try to piece it back together myself. :(  (That, and the 60 hour weeks at work are starting to take their toll. :P )

http://www.mediafire.com/?hyvxda64drih3ds

As for my Lachance and teleportation fixes--they seem stable and functional in my game, but I haven't heard feedback from anyone else. Links to either of those can be found in their respective issues, and I made a thread about the teleportation fix mod (Intervention Improved).

I really wish i could help with anything :)

but I've only made CM partner npcs (and thats like 2 years ago) :p so I'm not good with the CS

No experience is Not a good reason not to try. If you don't want to help, then don't, but I have never done a mod before, either...

@abadman91, I've seen similar comments on this forum. You shouldn't be afraid to try and figure this stuff out, it's not like we've all taken fancy modding classes.. okay well I did take a 3d modeling class once in which one of our assignments was to make a level for quake 3 but... that's completely different >.>
Seriously though, if you want to do something you should try =)

Well I've noticed that alot of the female npcs looks like men, maybe i could do something about that :p

Nevermind that, my CS is crashing constantly

The CS is like that. I don't think Bethesda worked hard enough on debugging it. But I promise it is workable. I'm exceedingly out of practice (As i demonstrated earlier by killing half the mages guild with an amature mistake) and I'm going back through a few of the tutorials. I hope to be at the point where I don't cause mass murder soon so that I can actually DO something for this project.

Yeah i know :) it only happens when im trying to fix the npc faces ;p

The faces crash is predictable and avoidable, one of the Stupid quirks about the CS, and one that does not seem to affect everybody. Before you can select the "faces" tab of an NPC, click the "Head" checkbox under the preview pane to the right. Don't click this first = Crash Click this first = Viola! Please make sure you avoid editing NPC's that have already been edited!

But is there a way to fix S'virr? (I've checked in the CS, but i don't know what to fix) :p I really want to go to Solstheim without using the "show all map markers" ^^

I could try to work on the Weapon Rebalance ^^

RavenSW, yes PLEASE do that! I managed to kill a full ebony axe-wieldig full ebony armorclad lvl20 npc with a lvl5 character, wielding bonemold and a sparksword. Highlevel armor and weapons doesn't seem to be as powerful as it should be, is my first thought.

I just started working with CS not too long ago and I have already started making real progress in getting the object placed where they should be.  This is a rather simple task, albeit time consuming, but in the process I have learned a whole lot about scripting, characters, the CS itself and whatever else I just happen to run into while I am in the CS working on the Object Placement mods.  It really is not that difficult once you get to playing around with it.  The hardest part for me was just figuring out the controls and how to work in a 3-d environment.  After that its just a bunch of words that need order (since everything in a program is nothing but a bunch of words and numbers--yes I'm a programmer...)

Is there anybody here who enjoys redocorating cells and placing furniture? Adding the neccesary beds for the npcs to sleep in is my least favorite part of AI work. I'm working Sadrith Mora right now and it's 49 beds short, not including the ones the guards will need once I get to them...

I finished weapon rebalance. I rechecked every single weapon and now they have proper stats. Also almost all unique weapons now have unique stats (just like in Morrowind) and some artifacts little overpowered.

http://www.mediafire.com/?xflx859azwfi7gv

P.S I fixed little "bug" with Redas War Axe. Because it had BluntOneHand weapon type and Steel War Axe icon, but in the Morrowind it was BluntTwoHand and Steel Battle Axe. So.... I fixed it ^^"" (at least it had right model)
P.P.S. My english is terrible,I know ^^"""

Nicely done. This was definitely something needed to be done. My advice for you now is that you choose something new that you are capable of doing and do it. By the way where were you from?

I am glad I can help project ^^ I'll think about it  ;) I am from Ukraine ^^"

This was needed Soooo Desperately! Two other people tried to work on this, but neither of them finished. Now you did in a couple of weeks! Fantastic. I can Finally remove this from the list!

^^ I hope you like my rebalance ^^"

P.S. I made decision. I'll change scale of the Urns. But not today)

Thank you RavenSW! I have already fixed these for the next release in Lleran Ancestral Tomb, which is where I first saw them.

I don't think David would agree with me, but I think we should finish this Music system.

http://morroblivion.com/music-and-sounds

If you can manage to get it done, it would be awesome. Still you can also do it after the Urns.

Darth is correct that I don't particularly agree that music should be the next priority :-P But, everybody wants different things. I am certainly not against it. I had completely forgotten that I said I would upload Morrowind Music, so I will start that now. Thank you for reminding me.

Darth South. I very bad at scripting, but I made plugin for Better Music System that allows play Morrowind music in Morroblivion and it's working! O_o But.... It doesn't change battle music. But.. Is someone interesting in this,i can continue my work) But i dont guarantee anything =_="

Thank you very much RavenSW, please David, please please please. Finish this :D

I am not clear on what you want me to finish. I have uploaded Morrowind music to the Project Release thread. i have music turned off most of the time, but when it is on, it is now Morrowind music.

Here are the last rentable bed scripts. With this, all Inns in VVardenfel that should have rentable beds really do have it now.

It's the inns are in ghost gate, Tel Mora, Tel Branora and  Vos.

PS: I also changed the ownership of the cells, and to Public. I guess some tweaks to the ai is needed to make them stay put.

I am able to remove TWO categories from the list! Thank you to Illspecko and RavenSW! * Renting Rooms completed by Illspecko * First the Weapons Rebalance and then Scaling the Urns by RavenSW RavenSW has volunteered to work on Training.

I have added another Category pointed out by Eloth. I also want to make another plea for someone to trim the grass! Please, this is not something I will ever be able to do myself because it requires constant back-and-forth between the game and CS. Because of all the mods I have installed, it literally takes me 3 1/2 minutes to load a game. Back and forth is not really an option for me. A good way to start would be in front of all the mines, caves, and tombs. Almost all of these have doorsteps that should not have grass poking up through, but most of them do. It looks silly.

Here is first part of my trainers fix ^^" It's fix for Great Houses trainers.

http://www.mediafire.com/?yrqchbl2de3l8ex

Thank you RavenSW! Training was the very first thing I identified as needing attention way back when!

Hey! Its been a while! Sorry for my absence, see my computer finally fell apart... I did however get it fixed, (wasnt allowed to buy a new one) but it'll do...

My mods have been wiped out but I'll start up again soon...

My plans are to continue AI in areas that have not been touched, I'll be starting fresh, probably in the ashlands, far from the cities

Glad you're back Didact =D

Well, there has not been a lot of activity on this thread lately, but most of the people with ongoing projects have sent me updates for the next release, so Thank You for that! I have added a new Category for adding the Original Morrowind voiced dialog. I am no longer in the mode of spending all my time modding and debugging, and trying to track down anything mentioned in the bug reports. I am now playing the mod I have worked so hard to make playable. I will continue to assemble the Master, and will continue debugging as I go. With my style of play, this will take Months, probably Many Months.

Dude, go for it! You and a many of the other devs here deserve a long break. And as for the way you play -- taking your time and exploring every place and dungeon you run across -- that's exactly how I play. That's the magic of Morrowind.

But yeah, take that long overdue break!

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that I would adopt this project. I had been playing Oblivion, and kept running into references to Morrowind that went right over my head. Vilja, in particular, made me want to explore so I knew what everybody was talking about. I spent a week piecing together what I needed to do, researching the available mods, and reading through these forums. I played with Oblivion44's "Morrowind Main Quest" which stopped after only a short way into Mehra Milo and the Lost Prophesies. There were no other quests, and half the unarmed, unarmored NPC's were busy fighting the other half. But, I got far enough along to see that the depth of development in Morrowind went WAY beyond what Oblivion ever did, and that it was a neat place. So, I set out to make it Playable so that I could play it and experience Morrowind!

I have played and beta tested mods for Oblivion heavily (a couple thousand hours in savegames at least) over the past couple years, but had never finished Morrowind's main quest... I had lost my MW saves in a hard drive crash, and didn't have the heart to continue, especially after OB came out.  I recently tried going back and creating a character in the MW game proper, intending to do just that.  But ... ack.  Even with the wonderful mods that have been created for that game, I couldn't stick it.  It was just by luck that I found the Morroblivion project was not only still alive, but is nearly fully playable.

I'm enjoying the crap out of playing this.  I really am.  And if there's anything I can do to help, I will.  Like you said, the quests are generally better in MW, and there is so much to do there...  Since I know every nook and cranny of Cyrodiil by heart, this mod is very welcome indeed.

you could try and see if you could do something about those bug reports ;)
