[WIP] Morroblivion Visual Overhaul

Submitted by eloth on
This will be a long running wip thread, until i am 100% finished with this project. Right now 80% of all textures are done, and about 90% of all meshes has been modified(added tangent spaces, retextured, etc) Here is a comparison: Stock morroblivion: Morroblivion visual overhaul: [External image] Other screenshots: [External image] [External image] [External image] [External image] [External image] [External image] [External image]

Praise the nine, He's alive!
awesome work man, glad to hear its all coming together. Will you be including a readme to install or is it just pretty much install morrobilivion normally then add the visual overhaul after?

If it still needs a 1gb graphics card I won't be using this mod ....

I'm playing this mod on my Macbook Air, which has a  256MB GDDR3 GPU. I just cannot use distant land, but I can set all the distances maxed out. Pretty much I have everything maxed out, except that the "Distant Land" option is toggled off.

It's definitely worth it though. Just try it, and mess with the settings.

I think it would be better to cut alot of other things(if you have to) than cut distance land, that has a massive visual impact.

No matter if I have everything medium and distant land on, it's still laggy for me. I don't mind turning distant land off, reminds me of Morrowind's fog.

Eloth,

This archive has a bad nif (\meshes\morro\f\ActiveUdwrvUdynamo00b.nif) in it.

Hope this helps.

I agree with robert I get the most lag when I am in interiors, could be do to the large collison shapes and the amount of miscellenous objects all over the place. I'll take a look

Hashmi is already looking into collision, as for misc items he mentioned something about there being largely excessive amounts of vertices in only one bottle. Here is what he said:

The Misc items are in need Geometric optimization more than collision optimization (there's are things like glass bottles with 20,442 vertices :O  ... It takes my outdated workbench 5 minutes just to open them in blender).

He later gave an example of exactly how excessive that number is:

To put the vertex count into perspective:

- Oblivion's Silver Goblet is made of  474 vertices.
- Oblivion's Silver Carafe is made of 459 vertices.
- Oblivion's Xivilai is made of 5,438 vertices.

Bottles take up very less visual space and are barely noticed in normal Gameplay ... so they should take up less vertices than the Xivilai for sure.

Here is the topic he made for collision if you want to talk to him about the whole thing: http://morroblivion.com/forums/morroblivion/mods/1930

I thought that was the reasion why there was so much lag, I know remember these meshe were source of lag in morrowind as well, there was a time when "high poly" was very populer I remember simply using a poly reduce on an umbra replacer, and being able to reduce to 40% of its original faces without causing any deformation. this is a real pet peeve of mine I plan on looking into reducing the vertices as best as I can. probably one of the largest contribution to the excessive vertices is that A. the shapes are unoptimized, several of them have uneeded vertices (ranging from 200 to five hundred) b. alot of them have unneeded triangles and C. the bottles with an alpha property have duplicates of each other ! is this even necessary > I want to find the original author of these meshes and strangle him ! and I KNOW these were from a morrowind mesh replacer because I use these in morrowind,

Man, I wasn't in the mood to play Morroblivion.

I got on here to see the new posts.

I read the new posts.

I scrolled up.

I saw the visual overhaul pictures.

Now I want to play Morroblivion.

;D
