Hi again! I must admit, I've been feeling quite discouraged to do voices but I decided to try out another batch. Because really...There are zero female voices so far. Now, I think I suck but whether or not it's better or worse than nothing at all - you tell me!
Here's a few dunmer women. Remember that the dark elf female voices aren't usually that "raspy" as the male ones, so they are quite normal... I actually think dunmer women kinda sound like old ladies, but it's hard to imitate that since I'm only 20 hehe. I did make the voices a little lower with audacity though.
Don't laugh (or cringe I hope...). ^^' Sorry about the quality by the way. I was kinda in a hurry and I didn't even use a proper mic for these. Just testing so far anyway so you can hear what my voice is like. :P
Awesome Josie I'll download those and check them out as soon as I get home! I was hoping to hear from you as you said your the only female to volunteer so far thanks for replying and having patience with the lack of leadership in this thread lately
josie your voice is amazing and you would be a great edition to stijmunkeys arsenal (i hope he agrees :P), if you dont mind me asking what nationality are you?
OK so when I get home I think I'm going to go about gathering all the info I need from this one and remake my own thread that way I can get everything cleaned up and organized and be able to update it on my own, I realize it might be a little inconvenient (fixing the links in other threads like the link to this one in people sent by gopher thread, and maybe moving around some stickies) but in the long run it will make things much more simple. We can also then change this thread back to arshak so he gets credit for putting all the work into the op and whatnot
Are you sure you can't edit? The edit button is at the top rather than the customary bottom of a post. Anyway, glad to see we have a few voice actors now.
Hey Josie, I've listened to your samples, and I have some pieces of advice, at least I think so. :)
It feels like your voice is a little too exaggerated. I think if you relaxed it and made it sound a bit more natural it would be better. But either way we are glad to have you on board!
Also, maybe your voice would sound better with a different race? I don't really know, I'm just throwing out ideas. Perhaps Imperial or..... Altmer! Actually, if there are any female Altmer characters I think that might be a perfect fit. What do you guys think?
Edit: Hey Stijmunkey, perhaps you should PM some of the voice actors we got on the Gopher thread about how we are ready for business, and say we have a sign up sheet all ready.
Also, If you haven't seen Thermador's post yet, take a look. I think it is the one right after the OP, and it contains a Dialogue spreadsheet that is EXTREMELY helpful. It should be added to the OP along with instructions I think.
Ill start pm'ing people tomorrow(its almost midnight where i am) i updated the op instructing people to download Thermador's spreadsheet, the man truly is a web wizard that spreadsheet is brilliant! I'll see about getting his links put up properly in the op with his instuctions though that way everything will all be in one place, i still have to clean up the op a little anyways.
Ok ive downloaded and listened to your attempts josie, i think the nevana ules was done quite well it matched what i think a noble in morrowind would sound like kind of proud and condesending thinks shes better than others, know what i mean? As for Mehra Milo i think the situation she is in is a little more urgent and were secretly meeting her during that line maybe kind of a half wisper or hush toned a little like you dont want anyone else to hear. At least thats my opinion and i know it would be hard to judge what kind of tones and situations the characters are in just from reading their dialogue but for the ones we do know i think we should try and match the situation as close as we can. As for the sound of the voice i think its awesome but not quite right for the dunmer its a little off as shadow said its perfect for altmer really perfect actually keep whatever you did we can definately use it for any altmer we need to voice if your up to it! As for the dunmer i"d encourage you to keep experimenting with your voice maybe a little lower of a tone im not sure thats a tricky one to imitate the males are easy just really low and raspy but the females are completely different maybe a hint of raspy but not a lot would help, again im not sure but your doing a great job keep playing around and im sure you will get it down and as it stands your the only female so do as much experimenting as you can hopefully you can provide a variety of different sounds. Awesome work keep going im looking foreward to hearing some more attempts as for the ones you already did was there any altmer characters you would be interested in voicing cuz again in my opinion and i guess shadows to that was bloody perfect for a high elf!
Also just a small update im pretty sure i have the file path to put the voices in skyrim down but i cant test it until the conversation options for the npcs are implemented.
Hey guys, longtime follower of this project. I showed this thread to my friend and he leapt at the opportunity to practice some voices. Enclosed are bits of dialog from Crassius Curio and Huleeya.

Thanks! Spreadsheets are what I do for a living actually :D If you want, I can update the spreadsheet to also display a file path for each line for Skyrim (it currently displays only Oblivion paths) but not being very knowledgeable about Skyrim audio formatting stuff, I would need some instruction or examples to build to formulas.
You're doing a great job with organizing the voice acting, thank you so much for stepping up to the task and organizing things. I added you to the contributor's group so that you can access the chat if you need it.
Good work. Just a note though. Reading the first post, I can't tell if it's about morroblivion or skywind, except for the name of the thread... Maybe that should be clarified, because instructions don't work for Skywind and Skyrim CK, for example. I can already see people failing... Maybe a quick update would make sense...
Hey! I just signed up because I saw this voice acting thread. I've played Oblivion and Skyrim, tasted Morrowind, and would love to help out. My issue is how to pronounce certain names. Sometimes when playing Oblivion or Skyrim I would hear names pronounced, then see how they were spelled and be like "Woah, I'd have never went that way with it." So I was wondering if there's any way to have a consensus on certain pronunciations. I'd be cool with "whatever you think" if it were just one person's dialogue, but if numerous people are talking about the same name, it's important to have it be consistent. I'd love to help out though!
Hey digital i updated the op a little to make it more clear for now it will only work for morroblivion but im working on getting it to work for skywind too i just need to wait for the first quests to be put in skywind then i can test it. Thanks Thermador updating the spreadsheet would be great! once im able to test the filepaths i have for skyrim and if they even work (im still fairly new to actually modding) then ill let you know
Hi dmoney123 those both sounded pretty good the only thing i noticed and i know it might be a little haed doing a voice like that bit i could hear him trying to clear his throat in between a few lines i know itll be hard but we gotta try and keep that out other than that i thought it was really good, has your friend signed up for this site if so just let him know that if he wants to do crassius or huleeya just let me know so i can update the main post assigning him to those characters
cinjaxon im not sure about anyone elses stance on pronunciation is but my opinion is different people pronounce words and names differently shouldnt it be the same in morrowind? Get a little diversity you know. So my stance is pronounce it however you feel is right, i wouldnt know how bethesda intended it to be pronounced anyway. but thats just my thoughts what does everyone think?
I thought I'd throw out a couple of goofy voices that sort of fit into the world of the Elder Scrolls. I cleaned the audio up as good as I can. I just don't know much about the characters or world of Morrowind, so I tried to do a style that's sort of in the ballpark of Oblivion and Skyrim. I can record any lines for whoever with quite a few different voices, I just don't even know where to start, haha. Will my voice and sound quality be okay for this? I haven't really heard any of the accepted audio, so I don't know how to compare.
hey cinjaxon, nice voices man thats some crazy variety some of them were a little goof but most were really good you should look up some characters maybe try for a MQ character in the OP pick one and try out some lines that you think would fit them they uesp links so you can see what the character looks like and get a little backround on them so you can judge what they should sound like, anyway pick a couple and try them out then post them here and if it works we can get you assigned to some characters so you can get to work good job man!
ok so i pm'd everyone who was interested in voice acting over on the gopher thread hopefully some of them show up!
I've also gone through some of the older already completed voices and i dont know if this is just me but caius cosades seems a little young sounding to me, i think one of cinjaxons voices would match a little better(i think it was the third (older sounding) one) any opinions do you guys agree?
Yes, I don't really like Caius's voice at all. And for such a huge character, we need someone really good.
Cinjaxon seems to have quite a talent for voice acting though. It sounds like he would be able to play several characters. Though I'm not sure which one would be best for Caius, I'd need a longer sample to be sure.
Oh, and I'm wondering if we should just give up on Morroblivion voiced dialogue, and just do it for Skywind. We really don't need to do double the work.
ya i thought about that too but until i can get the proper file paths down and figure out the file naming (is it the same as morroblivion?) then i cant really optimize the process for skywind so for now just keep going with morroblivion? it should be easy enough to get then moved over to skyrim later, if the filenames or id's are the same
dmoney123 i think yagrum sounded pretty good, i dont think anyone really knows what the dwemer sounded like but i think it matches really well, aryon isnt quite right though we are trying to stay as close to original sound for the characters and its just a little far off from morrowinds original version of a dark elf

Is there an original version of Morrowind voices? I was under the impression that there was almost no spoken word in the game, but I haven't played it in ages.
If so, perhaps there is a youtube example of all the races that you could point me towards in order to better emulate the characters.
You could just emulate the accents that are used in Skyrim? Same races.
There are indeed some voice files in the original Morrowind, but mostly just "greetings", not full voices. You can download them here (or pull them from your Morrowind installation) and give a listen:
So I played up to meeting Caius in Morrowind and got a feel for what he's about. Imperial, older, experienced, tough. I did a sort of booming voice for him that I think fits (at least better than what was already in that audio file in the OP). Any thoughts or criticism for changes? Does it suck? haha
cinjaxon that sounds pretty good to me, way better than what we currently have! The only thing is i noticed sort of an echo, on the last half especially, its faint but noticable did you try some of the tips in the first post to cut down on that hanging up a big blanket, i doubt you did considering it was just a test but if you could try it again and see if it works!
Also Thermador and Dmoney 123 im fine with using some of the skyrim accents and voices it would add a little diversity, but i would like to stick to the morrowind style as much as possible, especially for the dark elves i just love that dark raspy tone! i dont know about anybody else thats just my opinion
josie your voice is amazing and you would be a great edition to stijmunkeys arsenal (i hope he agrees :P), if you dont mind me asking what nationality are you?
Thanks! I'm actually finnish, but I've gone through international schooling since the age of 3, so my english doesn't have a typical finnish accent... In fact, since all my english teachers have been brittish and american, and my friends are from all over the world, my accent is really a mix of everything haha. But I honestly mean it when I say that I could replicate many accents very well, such as brittish or american... So which ever way it needs to go, I can try. :) I also made a skyrim nord accent attempt awhile ago, here's a link:
Hey Josie, I've listened to your samples, and I have some pieces of advice, at least I think so. [Smile]

Thanks for the input! I was afraid of overacting but at the same time I didn't want it to sound too flat and emotionless if you know what i mean? I could easily sound more relaced and "normal"..? :) I'll try that next time.
I'll send a few more tries of different races later on!

Haha! I could have easily made the Mehra Milo one more urgent etc! In fact I did do a few of those, but like I said, I was afraid of overacting it and sounding like a moron, and Shadow even said that I could have been more relaxed? :D So I'm not sure which one of your advice to follow! Or maybe they're not even conflicting advice? o.o I'm not sure! Next time I'll post more "different versions" :)
Also, I'll try altmer as well. ^^ I could also try a more "normal feminine" young imperial voice...Just for fun. Not sure if it'll be usable though. :')
I was keen on trying the dark elves earlier, because it's the most common race and would help a lot if they were voiced. :P But I agree that my voice might suite other races better.
Oh god I just listened to the old Caius Cosades voices and you're definitely a lot better candidate! So please do his voice!
If I had to give critique, I would say that some parts sounded like the voice actor was too young and tried to make his voice sound deeper and older. :D Which I guess was the case? I think it's perfectly understandable and definitely didn't ruin it, since it was brilliant anyway. It probably happens to a lot of us, because I'm guessing that most of us aren't really very old yet, yet many characters are supposed to be... But if you want to avoid it maybe you could try relaxing your voice a tiny bit and then making it lower with audacity? Don't know if you already tried that...? :)
Hey guys, longtime follower of this project. I showed this thread to my friend and he leapt at the opportunity to practice some voices. Enclosed are bits of dialog from Crassius Curio and Huleeya.
I loved both voices! I think the Cicero inspired one could fit some special character, but not just any random imperial? It preferred the first one for Crassius, but the second one should definitely be used for some character as well! We need diversity anyway. :)
Huleeya was also brilliant. My only comment would be for him to perhaps not exaggerate certain words as much. Acting is great, but the elder scrolls series has always been a little notorious for "flattish" voices...And we want our's to blend in. But maybe that's just my opinion? :)
Dmoney123 wrote:
Here are some more of my buddies attempts at a few other characters:
As always comments/criticism is appreciated. If any of these go over well my friend would be happy to do a complete set of dialog.
I loved the acting on the voices as well as the voice itself, but for me the accent is a bit too much? :D I can't recall any irish sounding ( ? sorry I'm awful at recognizing accents even if I can replicate them..) characters in Elder scrolls series. :) Other than that they were good? ;P
Yeah, I thought it sounded a bit forced too. I did it in a hurry without much practice or editing. I just ordered some new audio equipment on amazon but it was out of stock so it could be weeks before I get it, but I should be able to give clear quality voices that sound natural (I hope! :P)
That's one thing I noticed going through the 'completed' audio files. In my opinion, anyway, almost none of the voices are usable in a final release. There was too much digital audio removal or bad sound quality to actually work in-game (which is sad because some of the voices were amazing!). I should be able to give a usable quality when my new stuff gets here, but I know beggers can't be choosers. I was looking at the "Interesting NPCs" mod for Skyrim, though, and it's AMAZING. If we could get quality like that with greatly-adapted gameplay this could end up being a better fan-remake than "Black Mesa Source". If you don't know about it, listen to these fan-made, user submitted voices:

That's been an ongoing issue with the voice acting - the average age of the voice actors is much younger than the average age of the characters. Maybe ironman12345 can do some of the older male voices - I know he is in his mid 70s and probably our most senior member here.
Josie the reason i asked what nationality you are is because female dunmer have a predominantly english accent just a bit of critique :)
Haha, I'll try to sound less finnish next time.
And cinjaxon , I think we should contact the makers of that mod as well! The voice acting was great. :) I heard some great female voice acting there as well, and I definitely wouldn't want to be the only female voice actress (nor would I probably be allowed to hah!)

Yeah, I begged ironman12345 to do some voices as well via pm, but he said that he wasn't very motivated... But I agree, we need some older voices. >w< For females too... :S There aren't many teenager characters to voice unfortunately... And my voice happens to sound especially young my age unfortunately. In fact I've made all my previous voices a lot lower with audacity btw. :D
Josies' submittals were great IMO, though the biggest thing is if they have all of the npcs voiced, afterwards the team could go back and replace those that needed to be updated. Just an Idea for now. and in responce to cinjackson's post, I already suggested the Interesting NPCS mod as I agree on the quality of the VO in it. I am certain that they have already contacted as many people from it as possible. Hoping they get some of that talent tho. :)
And sorry for spamming but incase my links to other voices were drowned by that huge long post of mine that no one bother's reading, here's them again:
I already posted these once a long time ago, but didn't get much comment, except for the khajiit one not being "dry" enough? I personally actually like how these came out, although I'm not sure if they'd fit so you tell me. :) I know the nords of morrowind didn't sound as nordish though, so..?
Anyway please comment! ^^ As you can see I can do a lot of different kinds of voices, so if one is bad another one might be very different. x)
Thanks for the sample! I will use it as a guideline! It's a very hard voice to pull off but I'll try my best hehe. :)
I'm going to post a few more voices soon. I'm hoping for fast feedback and ideas for final characters because I'm actually home alone for a few days now, which means that I can do voice recordings without my boyfriend having to listen. :D Not that he'd mind but I do!
I was thinking about ironman too but I figured he already had a lot on his plate, I'll look more into contacting the interesting npc actors, infact one of them was already on these forums earlier, zaf, I've pmd him but no reply yet, I might try emailing him, I also tried tes alliance voice actors forum but unfortunately Skywind isn't allowed to be discussed there, although it does have a list of their actors so I might try contacting them personally
alright i dont know if this is just me because it seemed to work for eloth but josie when i click on your links mediafire says the file belongs to an unvalidated account

Oh, and I'm wondering if we should just give up on Morroblivion voiced dialogue, and just do it for Skywind. We really don't need to do double the work.
ya i thought about that too but until i can get the proper file paths down and figure out the file naming (is it the same as morroblivion?) then i cant really optimize the process for skywind so for now just keep going with morroblivion? it should be easy enough to get then moved over to skyrim later, if the filenames or id's are the same
Here are some more of my buddies attempts at a few other characters:
Yagrum Bagarn
Master Aryon
As always comments/criticism is appreciated. If any of these go over well my friend would be happy to do a complete set of dialog.
dmoney123 i think yagrum sounded pretty good, i dont think anyone really knows what the dwemer sounded like but i think it matches really well, aryon isnt quite right though we are trying to stay as close to original sound for the characters and its just a little far off from morrowinds original version of a dark elf
as far as im concerned dmoney123 your friend can take yagrum huleeya or crassius just let me know!

:) I also made a skyrim nord accent attempt awhile ago, here's a link:
http://www.mediafire.com/?qbhspiz15mvwept
Here's also a khajiit attempt hahaha:

I did these some weeks ago. :D

Thanks for the input! I was afraid of overacting but at the same time I didn't want it to sound too flat and emotionless if you know what i mean? I could easily sound more relaced and "normal"..? :) I'll try that next time.
I'll send a few more tries of different races later on!
Stijmunkey wrote:
@cinjaxon:
you have a very good voice that matches the wood elves in morrowind :D
@dmoney:
this is how the dark elves sounded like:
http://morroblivion.com/forums/skywind/skywind-development/3...
And you have a good voice and accent for the khajiit if you can get your voice pitch higher :)
@cinjaxon:
Dmoney123 wrote:
I loved both voices! I think the Cicero inspired one could fit some special character, but not just any random imperial? It preferred the first one for Crassius, but the second one should definitely be used for some character as well! We need diversity anyway. :)
Huleeya was also brilliant. My only comment would be for him to perhaps not exaggerate certain words as much. Acting is great, but the elder scrolls series has always been a little notorious for "flattish" voices...And we want our's to blend in. But maybe that's just my opinion? :)
Dmoney123 wrote:

Maybe you could even contact some of these guys?
Josie the reason i asked what nationality you are is because female dunmer have a predominantly english accent just a bit of critique :)
Josie wrote:
That's been an ongoing issue with the voice acting - the average age of the voice actors is much younger than the average age of the characters. Maybe ironman12345 can do some of the older male voices - I know he is in his mid 70s and probably our most senior member here.
Trytonlee wrote:
Haha, I'll try to sound less finnish next time. And cinjaxon , I think we should contact the makers of that mod as well! The voice acting was great. :) I heard some great female voice acting there as well, and I definitely wouldn't want to be the only female voice actress (nor would I probably be allowed to hah!)
thermador wrote:
Thanks Gregthegen!
And sorry for spamming but incase my links to other voices were drowned by that huge long post of mine that no one bother's reading, here's them again:
Random nord rumors with skyrim accent:
http://www.mediafire.com/?qbhspiz15mvwept
Addhirannirr khajiit voice:
http://www.mediafire.com/?2q1191v467pw1t9
I already posted these once a long time ago, but didn't get much comment, except for the khajiit one not being "dry" enough? I personally actually like how these came out, although I'm not sure if they'd fit so you tell me. :) I know the nords of morrowind didn't sound as nordish though, so..?
Anyway please comment! ^^ As you can see I can do a lot of different kinds of voices, so if one is bad another one might be very different. x)
josie:
you have the correct accent for khajiit, only need to change your voice to the cat like voice in morrowind :)
here is a morrowind khajiit: http://www.mediafire.com/?umu2jzq36a8bb15
Eloth:
Thanks for the sample! I will use it as a guideline! It's a very hard voice to pull off but I'll try my best hehe. :)
I'm going to post a few more voices soon. I'm hoping for fast feedback and ideas for final characters because I'm actually home alone for a few days now, which means that I can do voice recordings without my boyfriend having to listen. :D Not that he'd mind but I do!
I was thinking about ironman too but I figured he already had a lot on his plate, I'll look more into contacting the interesting npc actors, infact one of them was already on these forums earlier, zaf, I've pmd him but no reply yet, I might try emailing him, I also tried tes alliance voice actors forum but unfortunately Skywind isn't allowed to be discussed there, although it does have a list of their actors so I might try contacting them personally
josie:
Your voice is not so unlike the sample i linked, just a little deeper, and faster :)
alright i dont know if this is just me because it seemed to work for eloth but josie when i click on your links mediafire says the file belongs to an unvalidated account
@stijmunkey
I just verified my email for the account, incase it was the problem. :) Strange though, since it's worked before all along. P:
